About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find my land with no fences
P.S. Write me at fabio@pathfindermail.com if I have not logged in for quite some time.

ABOUT ME

I'm restless, a drifter, "off to see the world, because there's such a lot of world to see". I'm deeply attracted by the unusual being an unconformist alien myself. I'm anti-capitalist, anti-consumistic, and against any brain-washing regime, especially telecracy. I dislike every "All-I-want-is-enjoying-life" attitude, as it sounds way too superficial. We human beings we possibly not meant for this life, therefore need to fight for connate stupidity every single minute of it. I keep asking myself why (the hell) people worship a god, but have respect for all faiths when they help being a better one. I strongly believe what the good old Thucydides once said, that the secret of happiness is freedom, and the secret of freedom is courage. For that I quitted my bank job years ago, began making a certain variety of experiences, some studying, some travelling, and plenty of exciting encounters. Hope keeping on that till comes the time to settle down. Personal motto: faire front (registered by Bernanos).

PHILOSOPHY

I favour an integrated multiethnic world over multiculturalism.
To me, mutual understanding is the most important and urgent goal humanity HAS to achieve. And a common language its tool. Any tutelage of localisms, specificities, differences, though extremely important, must come second to a universal mean of verbal communication.
Be it German, Arabic, or Mandarin, should not matter; but let English be just a quick, commercial-driven, computer friendly, flexible tongue.
With one very important rule: Only the words better than silence have a right to exist (Juan Carlos Onetti).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I began as a teenager in London, but got really surprised a few years later in Venice, California, when a couple hosted me for a week not knowing me at all. Once I stayed a month in Antigua, Guatemala, with a guy I just met once before. People do trust people. Why shouldn’t I?

Interests

Watching arthouse films in old theatres, travelling to little known countries, walking city streets nose-up like a flâneur, taking back alleys, sipping red wine from a tall-stemmed glass, drinking the essential morning cappuccino and more espressos during the day, sitting for friends, getting involved in discussions over world politics and doing voluntary work, reading history, dreaming on maps, collecting movie posters, dressing casual, eating ethnic food, working out, keeping up with friends, learning something new, playing the truth game, and hoping the sound part of Italy's cut off politics will start to reconsider its unfair support to liberism!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a long list of favourite films, and a rather short one of favourite books.

Music: Protest songs of the 60's-70's, French chansonniers, politically participating Italian singers-songwriters, World Music, Mexican corridos, dramatic Fados, mellifluous Arabic songs.

Art: 1920-30's German "decadent" paintings, Art Déco, early works by Cézanne, Canova's heart-beating marbles, Turner's sublime water-coloured Venice, the radical Käthe Kollwitz, Sebastião Salgado's "salty" b/w militant photography, Brassaï's pitiless photo portraits, Vivienne Westwood's eccentric fashion designs.
