My travels have taken me to North America, SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Iceland and some of Europe - enough to give me an appreciation of life's variety and gratitude for the opportunities to travel.
I am often quiet and thoughtful, other times openly extroverted, always friendly, hospitable and up for a drink. I'm a moderate environmentalist yet enjoy driving; I'm politically engaged and disenfranchised; I'm quietly opinionated yet diplomatic and always open to friendly discussion.
I've had my own business for just over 3 years, as a wine merchant from late 2013 to early 2017, now focusing on wine consultancy.
I moved over from the west coast of Scotland to Perth a couple of months ago - a move which I think will be a permanent relocation. First however, I'm heading over to the States in May to do a coast-to-coast solo cycle - for no particular reason beyond fulfilling a personal ambition. Less than a month to go now - I'm starting to feel the building excitement and nervousness in equal measures!!!
"Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time...!"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have stayed with CS hosts in a number of countries, most of which have been great experiences, no horror stories yet! I hosted fairly regularly for the previous couple of years. However, I don't currently have own accommodation which I am able to share, sorry.
I surfed all over the US, was very fortunate that all my hosts were absolutely awesome and really added to my appreciation of America and Americans. I also stayed with a few CS hosts in Portugal and Spain.
I hosted guests fairly frequently when I had a lovely and quaint bothy on the west coast of Scotland. Unable to host currently, but will do so again when resettled.
Travelling. Drinking wines and whisky. Trying my hand at photography or Gardening. Watching rugby. Running, cycling & swimming - individually or competing in triathlons. Politics. If I can blend multiple interests and good company into the same experience all the better. Followed off with a good beer... naturally!
My political inspiration/hero is Bobby Kennedy, so very much looking forward to visiting the Landmark For Peace Memorial in Indianapolis - and taking a 200 mile detour to make it happen!
- card games
- cycle touring
Music, Movies, and Books
I have a wide and eclectic taste in music. Almost anything goes. Search "Happy Mediums" on Spotify for my ever-expanding playlist.
I'm not a great reader, but occasionally enjoy something that gives a new perspective. Working my way slowly through "The Wilderness Adventures" by John Muir; and "The Man Who Cycled The World" by (& about) Mark Beaumont.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Summer solstice party upon "The Dome" in Dawson City, Yukon.
Teach, Learn, Share
