Sobre mí

We are a young family of six - Sebastian (called Basti; *1978), Tabea (*1980), our son Jaro (*2011) and our three daughters Mara (*2013), Malu (*2017) and Mila (*2019). We live in a 240 years old farmhouse right in the middle of a very small village, just 5km out of Grimma. Got two cats, two ducks and are looking forward to getting sheep and some chickens somewhat soon hopefully. Life is simple out here: we enjoy gardening, building and renovating (transferring the house slowly but surely into our cozy home) and most of all: spending as much quality time together as possible. We have got no TV, try to eat lots of vegetables (vegan is one of our goals for the near future) and prefer cycling rather than taking the car. We care a lot about our children, their and our own lifes as well as our friends and family.

Basti is a psychologist, working parttime in a clinic nearby. Basketball is one of his biggest hobbies, as he's been playing and coaching in his younger days. He's also enjoying working with wood - he's build most of our furniture himself and always has plans on what to build next 😆

Besides being a happy mom, Tabea loves to work at a free school closeby. She used to be quite "sporty" - being good at cross-country-skiing and also rugby in her younger years. She's been travelling the world quite a bit in her "years-before-the-children" and is happy to share her experiences.

Jaro is our oldest child - quite a clever young boy who's caring a lot about his three sisters. He loves being outdoors, playing soccer and the guitar, climbing on trees, starting bon fires, grilling marshmellows and building things with whatever there can be found lying around. He's very creative with wood and ideas on what to play next...

Mara is a wonderful girl. She's "pretty from the outside and inside" - as somebody once told us. She matches perfectly with her brother, the two of them play together happily (most of the time 😋). Every now and then she wants to be a princess and puts on a dress etc; overall she's as wild as her brother and as we enjoy her 😊

Malu was born in February 2017; born at home. She is a friendly and happy girl as well, very relaxed and interested in her siblings and has her own mind, of course.

Mila is our last child, still a baby (born in September 2019, also at home). She loves being carried around and hates driving by car which fits us perfectly 🤣

In 2016 we started going on vacation with our bikes (rather than taking a car), packing everything we need (tent, sleeping bags, cooking stove etc) onto those two wheels. We LOVE travelling that way - as it brings us close to nature, the local people and ourselves. We've done Oder-Neiße-Weg from Görlitz to the Ostsee in may 2016, cycled from Spreewald back home in september 2016 and toured the South of Sweden in summer 2017. In 2018 year we spent seven weeks riding along the "Via de la Plata" in Spain and along the coast of Portugal - what a great adventure it has been! And how lucky were we to have found such wonderful Couchsurfing hosts along our way. They really made our trip!

Now this summer (2019) we explored Denmark on our bikes for about two weeks and very much enjoyed getting to know this country and its people. We weren't able to surf any couches but used the Warmshowers-platform as well as various sorts of shelters. Once again we met great, very friendly and helpful people whom we fondly remember and call friends now. Life is beautiful!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i started with CS in southern Africa. having been hosted by some really awesome people it didn't take long to turn into a host myself. i really enjoy getting to know other people and being of help.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

couchsurfing - what a wonderful idea! i'm a biiig fan of sharing things rather than dumping them (free shops) and love what is called "upcycling". i think CS matches this philosophy perfectly...

Intereses

a little bit of everything i guess. some sports (rugby, cycling and wintersports), being creative (e.g. pottery, basket weaving), cooking jam, collecting herbs for tea, enjoying the outdoors (camping, cycling, canoeing), gardening, staring into bonfires...
