Overview
About Me
Heya! We're Tara and Tijl (pronounced 'Tell'), living in Waratah, Newcastle. Tijl grew up in the Netherlands and moved to Australia in 2019, and Tara grew up in a small beach town in NSW. We love meeting new people and learning about different cultures.
We've both travelled a fair bit; together and separately, and we love to explore. We enjoy walks and bike rides, and delight in nature. Tijl works as a high school science teacher and Tara works part time in a shop and the rest of the time as a freelance illustrator.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We've joined couchsurfing because we'd like to host travellers, and we'd love for you to experience the beautiful city of Newcastle. We want to welcome people from different parts of the world in our own city, and help people where we can by providing a safe place to stay. Tijl has used couchsurfing while travelling in Australia in 2017, and now we're excited to host people in our home.

Music, Movies, and Books
We both love a variety of music, from Icelandic pop to indie acoustic to old time jazz.
Movies: the good sorts!
We both have a faith in God, and so we love to read books about spirituality and Christianity, as well as fiction, creativity, design, and anything that looks interesting really!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2019, Tijl moved to Australia from the Netherlands.
In 2021, we got married!
We once made it on the guestlist of one of our favourite musicians at Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland.
Teach, Learn, Share
We're happy to share meals together, whatever you feel comfortable with.
We'd love to share homemade sourdough bread, stories, smiles, and ears to listen. We can give any advice for places to explore in the area. We live a short 5 minute walk from Waratah train station.
