About Us
She's Japanese and I'm Canadian. She's a nurse, I'm an English teacher.
We are basically country people. We live in a small village by the Sea of Japan. It's about 3km downstream from Kinosaki, a traditional hot spring bathing resort which has only recently been discovered by foreign tourists.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We mainly host but we also surfed a little in Europe in 2010. We've had many guests in the past but not so many lately.
As surfers, we love the unique local perspectives that CS gives us.
As hosts, we really like introducing and attracting people to our scenic rural area. We think it's unfortunate that many visitors to Japan never wander outside of major destinations like Tokyo and Kyoto. We think Kinosaki is a great choice for those wishing to step off the beaten path. We'd be happy to show you why if we have time.
Interests
We like scenic drives, beaches, hot spring baths, trips to the cities, camping, dinner parties, barbecues and hanging out with good people.
Shinobu does a lot of reading, cooking, crafts and so on.
Adam likes inline skating, swimming, hockey, board games, trivia and lots of other things.

Music, Movies, and Books
We are generally sick of loves stories and love songs, though there are many exceptions. Otherwise, we have fairly eclectic tastes which include some very cheesy stuff.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We introduced many foreign foods to Toyooka through a restaurant we used to run. It became a sort of international community centre where locals and foreigners could get acquainted and share their culture. That was a lot of fun.
Teach, Learn, Share
Shinobu likes dressing people up in kimonos. She also likes to teach and learn about cooking.
Adam likes geography and learning about where you're from. He also likes discussion and debate about anything, without taking things too seriously in most cases. He likes to brush up on his French (or a little German) but it's very rusty.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hopefully a few laughs?
We're usually happy to cook or take you out for dinner.
We're always up for good conversation.
Of course we'd gladly host if you ever visit Japan.
