About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am politically progressive, and my current mission is to convince my fellow Americans that conservative political approaches are immoral, mean-spirited and destructive. Don't worry--I'm not strident, but will talk politics with you if you want.

ABOUT ME

I'm low-key, interested in a lot of things including meeting new people, especially international visitors.

PHILOSOPHY

Much of my focus up to this point has been on work--education, unions social justice. I'm re-focusing on having a fulfilling retirement. After a year of being disconnected and winding down, I'm ready to re-engage and figuring out what to do with the third third of my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will be pleased to host, and eventually to look for places to stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a rookie at couchsurfing, but have participated in citizen exchanges including home stays in various countries, and also hosted international visitors, primarily teachers. Prior to CS, I developed life-long friendships with hosts in Guadeloupe (West Indies), South Africa, England. Also stayed with families in Costa Rica, Brazil, and hosted visitors from Sweden, England, Guadeloupe, South Africa, Turkey, and a few other places.

Interests

Interested in internationalism, human rights and social justice, gardening, dogs, painting, good conversation, a glass of wine on the deck.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a wide range of books and movies, including deeply serious and socially relevant but also mind-numbing junk--I'm not a movie or book snob. I do not really enjoy slapstick comedy (think Jim Carey) or blood and gore movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was hosted by student and teacher activists in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and Zimbabwe in the early 90's. These were the most amazing people I have ever met.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about education, unions, social history of US and Europe, African liberation struggles, the history of socialism I would love to strengthen my language skills in French and Spanish.
