Overview
About Me
My name is Tommy and am from Vancouver, BC (Canada). I love to travel, meet new people and explore the world around us. I am gay, francophone and a ginger. I grew up in a small town up North and went to school at the University of Alberta. I now reside in the beautiful city of Vancouver. I strongly believe in volunteering and giving back to the community.
As a guest I am a good balance of quiet and loud, I do not drink alcohol (but will gladly join you at your local pub and have some non-alcoholic beverages with you), I do my best to support local businesses, and always have a smile on my face. I'm also pretty flexible when it comes to schedules so no need to feel bad about having to wake me up at 6:00am to go to work.
Due to recent increase in hosting requests I wanted to write a quick note about my availability. I keep my profile on "accepting guests" as I am always open to having travellers around however please remember that I do have a life here in Vancouver and cannot host everyone all the time. Note that due to the nature of my work my schedule is all over the place so be prepared to be flexible. I also prefer to host people who have common interests with me and who I would most likely get along with. Advanced notice is also preferred but I can be flexible in terms of dates. In short, I don't want anyone to take it personally if I refuse your request to stay with me. It is free after all ;) Generic and copy/paste requests that do not tell me your reasons for requesting to stay with me specifically will automatically be declined. I receive many requests that do not even include my name, those people get blocked.
Note that I only accept queer couchsurfers who are travelling solo as this is how I gay-it-forward to my community. Furthermore, I strongly prefer to host folks who identify as gay and male. I will decline you if you do not fit within this category. Please understand that this is nothing personal and I try my best to respond to everyone, even if it's just to decline their request.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As a budget conscious traveler I joined Couchsurfing to save some money while meeting some wonderful people.
I have hosted a number of Couchsurfers so far and have loved it! I used to say that my most recent adventure was my two month trip to Australia/New Zealand/Hawai'i where I got to catch up with some of them along the way, but that was a few years back by now. I've been a flight attendant for five years and that has just added to my love of travel and connecting with other humans around the world. The experience so far has been great! I've had less luck with being hosted but that's okay, I enjoy showing others around Vancouver.
Interests
Veganism, Carsharing, Sustainability, Theatre, Musicals, Travelling
Music, Movies, and Books
Will & Grace. Rupaul's Drag Race. Law & Order: SVU. The Amazing Race. Rocky Horror Picture Show. C.R.A.Z.Y. Mean Girls, Frozen
As for books, I mostly read auto-biographies of those who have had obstacles to overcome in their life (ie. people of colour, woman, queer people, etc) as I find them more relatable to my life.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Made my way through University, and survived. That's pretty amazing if I do say so myself!
My job has also allowed me to do and see some incredible things such as a visit to the Taj Mahal in India, or seeing Wicked on Broadway in New York. I love my job and wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My amazing love for the City of Vancouver, some delicious vegan homecooked meals, and hopefully a few laughs from this French Canadian guy. :)
