About Me

Current Mission

Gosh, I really don't know !

About Me

I don't deal well with stress, noise and crowds. From time to time I need to regain my own space for a couple of hours which is not usually a problem as I always find a way to get it peacefully.

I traveled for the first time when I was 39, and since then I became addicted.

I am basically a bitter fellow, definitely not funny, who likes to think about the world and its people, which results in... being opinative. Apart from that, I tend to offer good hospitality and tell interesting [not my words] traveling and CS stories.

Philosophy

Right now, I'm aiming to have a good life: enjoying each day as a bless.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

How I participate in Couchsurfing

Well... I love to host, meet and help people to enjoy the places that I know well. Isn't it the heart of the whole thing? Well, at least it was the beginning. Later, I started to organize events, gatherings, activities.

These last years I haven't been so active, I mean, in the social aspects of Couchsurfing, and then, it seems the "management" is willing to shut down completely those aspects, considering the changes made to the interface, so I will definitely be out of events and other activities.

Couchsurfing Experience

I've been hosting people in Algarve - Portugal since 2005. During my period in Prague - Czech Republic (October 2007 to October 2010) I kept hosting. As a guest I lived amazing experiences in dozens of countries, meeting an awesome bunch of people. And until now I've been present in countless gatherings in Prague, Ireland, Wien, Budapest, Sofia to name just a few. Last but not the least: no negative experiences so far! Meanwhile, I keep my CS Website, telling everything about my CS Experience in Prague (although I left the city I decided to keep this material online as reference).

Interests

Reading (a lot), Watching Movies (a lot), taking care of the house, cooking, photography (watch my Portfolio - at http://www.500px.com/ricardoamribeiro or add me in Instagram at http://www.instagram.com/Cruzamundos), geocaching, hiking & exploration, computers, writing. Quad riding.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: L'Auberge Espagnole, Das Leben der Anderen, La Meglio Gioventu, Snow Falling on Cedars. Oh gosh! I don't know. I keep 900 movies in my DVD collection and it keeps growing. Hard to name just a few.

Books: Memoires d'Hadrien (Marguerite Yourcenar); The Parfum (Patrick Suskind); What is History? (Edward Carr); Deixei o Meu Coração em África (Manuel Arouca); Total Fears (Bohumil Hrabal); The Unbearable Lightness of Beeing (Milan Kundera); Cien Anos de Soledad (Gabriel Garcia Marquez); The Kite Runner (Khaled Housseini); All Quiet on the Western Front (Erich Maria Remarque); A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson); The Signature of All Things (Elizabeth Gilbert). To name just a few, of course.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Meeting death twice and managed not to travel with her. Experiencing my first kiss with first girlfriend.

Teach, Learn, Share

I will hardly teach anything because I know little. I'm a generalist person in a civilization where individual memory is gradually beeing erased by auxiliar memory devices. Therefore I keep almost nothing in my brain. Still, I can teach and/or share my memories regarding my own experience of life. Perhaps someone Maio be interested in a general perspective of my country History, society, geography. Or of my living experience in Prague. Finally, I can show how to practice Geocaching, a game that usually Couchsurfers enjoy.
