I've written down many information about me over there.
In short: I am very interested in nearly everything and am learning something new everyday about life on this beautiful planet. Therefore traveling not only online but especially in real life is essential!
The bicycle is in my eyes the perfect means for that because you can stop everywhere, talk to everybody (there is no wall around you), travel with the most efficient vehicle the human mind has ever invented and enjoy nature in a way only topped by hiking!
I try to live a life that is beneficial to other humans and animals and the planet (Gaia) and at the same time make a lot of fun of it. This is in my eyes a sustainable form of life and a form worth living.
I try to use convivial (a term created my Ivan Illich) tools, that is tools that serve me and whom I don`t have to server (too long).
I like cycling, running and the internet very much - in my eyes very convivial tools.
When Henry D. Thoreau managed to live for a year from 60 days of work in 1850 why shouldn't we be able to do similar now?
I am a follower of Gandhi and am trying hard to not use violence but to use the power of nonviolence.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I had started my cycling tour at the end of April 2007 - then I started CouchSurfing. I've couchsurfed in many places around this beautiful planet.
Now I mainly host people, attend meetings or visit friends I've made through CouchSurfing in nearby cities.
I've couchsurfed at other cyclist's places before couchsurfing.
During my bicycle journey around the world I have made many friends through CS all along the way!
Now that I'm back I'm hosting people and friends from time to time, had a CouchSurfing music concert in the house and do meet with CouchSurfers from the area.
Cycling and bike culture, social implications of modern technology, (ultra marathon) running, pacifism, reading, thinking, vegetarianism, Latin, ancient philosophers, Henry David Thoreau and transcendentalism, renewable energies, energy efficiency, (smart) grid management, sustainability, love and recently I descovered the meditative effects of throwing stones and slinging as a kind of sport and meditation (in the Andes of South America)
Music, Movies, and Books
I like nearly all kinds of scientific literature and books, especially about physics, mathematics, environment, renewable energies, sustainability and social rights.
I am an absolute fan and can "wolf down" enormous quantities of cycling books and magazines.
I like chillout, lounge, trance and classic music (Thievery Corporation, Air, Paul Oakenfold and many more).
Some of my favorite movies include Ghost Dog - The life of the Samurai, Fight Club, "Der blutige Pfad Gottes", Tour der Leiden and everything by Monty Python and Mr Bean :-)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have done a cycling tour together with my father over the Alps (from north to south). Whenever I think back to the beautiful scenery, the sometimes day-long uphills and tremendously fast downhills I always want to be there again, in nature, on the single trails, followed by a brown cloud of dust.
I have crossed Tibet by bicycle - that's the most intense experience in life and I will definitely come back to this wonderful place of pure magic!
I've worked for one year out of trains all through Germany. I crossed the country on a daily basis with 320 km/h, hacking into my laptop computer and getting to meet many great people - from world travelers to soccer (Bundesliga) teams.
