find myself, meet yourself
i prefer night to day, salty to sweet, deep talks to gossip, train to bus, red wine to pink/white, unique to conventional, mountains to plains, black olives to green, face-to-face communication to chat/call, shower to bath, barefoot to shoes, light (color, not reduced alcohol :P) beer to dark, lake to swimming pool, hug to handshake, true sadness to fake happiness, spring to winter, cooking to baking, drawing to painting, walking to standing.. and whatsoever :D
life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.. I don´t like waiting, I want to enjoy every single moment of my life.. carpe diem :) or aprovecha el momento (i´m starting to learn spanish :D ).. and, like Paulo Coelho would say : if you think adventure is dangerous, try routine - it is lethal..
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
when i was younger, i started (occasionally) to imagine other peoples´ point of view.. i´ve tried to see the world the way they see it, for a while.. i´ve tried to understand them, their feelings, attitudes.. and the more i learn about the others, the more i learn about nations, cultures, options, about the world, about me..
then i realized, how conventional vaccations in hotels deprive you of the real people, real life in the country you travel to.. how do i know Italy/Spain/Greece, when i´m served english breakfast every morning? when i´m surrounded with tourists from Slovakia and i only can hear my language? i´d rather stay home..
but couchsurfing offers exactly what i´m looking for - get know the country, way of living, traditions, food, points of interest you can´t find on trip advisor.. meet the the people, share their (and mine) stories, satisfactions, complains, interests, time.. that´s the point of traveling, for me..
the list of things i´m not interested in is much shorter.. because the world is so colorfull, that i don´t wanna see just purple.. i wanna see a rainbow!
- peanut butter
- coffee and tea
- backpacking and hitchhiking
Music, Movies, and Books
music.. well, the best music for me are the sounds of nature.. rain, tweeting birds, wind sweeping the leaves, cracking wood in fire, woodpecker trying to find a lunch, waterfall, .. but i also love the sounds of music instruments and songs made by people :) buskers in the streets.. many genres, performers.. Sigur Rós, Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, Passenger, Stu Larsen, Mumford and sons, The Lumineers, Sleeping at Last, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Florence and the Machine, Apocalyptica, Nirvana, System of the Down, Hypno5e, Pink Floyd, Queen, Chopin, Jarek Nohavica, Horkýže Slíže, The Fialky, Živé kvety, .......
movies.. yes i like watching them :) mostly when i can share my thoughts about them with someone.. and my favorites? Dead poets society, Gran Torino, Inside I´m dancing, Forrest Gump, Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie poulain, Restless, The boy in the striped pyjamas, The pianist, The bucket list, Up, The Shawshank redemption, October sky, Napola, Geisha, Into the wild, Kolja, Pelíšky, Shut up, Chocolat, American history X, All dogs go to heaven, Pocahontas.. and many more :) i´m also a fan of serials, like That 70´s, House MD, Miranda, Parks and recreation, Black books, M.A.S.H., Family guy.. and documentary movies about nature, places, history....
books.. for many years i was not able to appreciate books for their literary value, school forced me to read, so i stopped reading.. it was supposed to be an act of protest, resistance.. not a good one, i know now.. but later i fell in love with books.. Le petit prince (A.de S.Exupéry), Catcher in the rye (J.D.Salinger), Sophie´s choice (W.Styron), Heaven has no favorites + Three comrades + All quiet on the western front (E.M.Remarque), The old man and the sea (E.Hemingway), Let me tell you (J.Bucay).. hope i will add more titles soon :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Bratislava is not a big city but still, there is so much light at night.. and i really need dark sometimes.. August 2015 - i was craving to see Perseids.. like really SEE them.. so one day i googled ´dark sky parks in slovakia´ and the result? Poloniny national park, on the other side of the country.. i packed my backpack, got some sleep and at 6am i was sitting in the train, heading east.. it took almost 12 hrs just to get to the village where the trail starts.. then it was just me and nature, and the storm passing by in the next valley.. amazing how loneliness makes you feel yourself.. i was camping on the meadow, surrounded by forest.. dark, quiet, peace.. i saw the night sky, incountable stars and falling meteors.. i got what i wanted, and much more!
Teach, Learn, Share
"we cannot TEACH people anything.. we can only help them discover it within themselves.." (Galileo Galilei)
"the more that you read, the more things you will know.. the more that you LEARN, the more places you'll go.." (Dr. Seuss)
"happiness is not so much in having than SHARING.. we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.." (Norman MacEvan)
What I Can Share with Hosts
my past (stories), present (time), future (visions).. I could share a pack of bisquits or a bottle of water, my ideas and opinions, experience and knowledge.. maybe my glasses, if you have the same diopter :D i can share paper tissues when there is a time to say goodbye and you´ll suddenly find out how much you like me and you don´t want me to go :P /i will miss you too.. probably :D /.. but what is for sure - i can share a hug, smile, and presence.. i never travel without them :)
