PHILOSOPHY

If you dont live on the edge you are wasting space!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I mostly host couchsurfers at my house in Joburg. And I might drag you along to a park run or MTB ride if you are up for it

- Pls note my house is 33km from ORT airport and 37 km from Lanseria airport.
- From the time you land at ORTIA, (if you checked in luggage) it will take +- 1.5-2 hrs to arrive at my house.
- To get here from ORTIA you can either take the very convenient Gautrain from inside the airport to Rosebank station and then an Uber/Bolt/taxi to my house for the last 8km, or an Uber/Bolt/taxi from the airport all the way to my house. If you landed at Lanseria airport then for now the only option is Uber/Bolt/taxi.

- Living arrangements - you will either be sleeping in the lounge, where there are 2 very comfortable couches, or, if there is a guest bedroom available, then your own room. ATM, I am short of a decent guest mattress, so bargain on occupying the couch.
- When it comes to meals, I'm very flexible. You’re welcome to sort yourself out, or we can cook together — which I prefer, as it’s far more social and usually more fun. If we go the shared route, contributing to groceries and helping with cooking (and the all-important post-meal cleanup) is much appreciated 🙂

- I mostly work from home, and my schedule tends to swing between “chilled & relaxed” and “slightly on fire.” On the good days, I’m very happy to hang out, swap stories, or even show you around; on the busier days, I may be glued to my laptop and running on caffeine and deadlines. I’m always up for a good chat, but I do appreciate guests who are comfortable doing their own thing and exploring independently when needed.

- Please note there are 2 very friendly dogs in the house

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had some awesome times hosting couch surfers, going out and spending time together, cooking and talking, understanding others' viewpoints and cultures

If you want or need travel tips for SA, just ask, and let me know if you are an adrenaline junkie prefering the full hands-on experience, or whether you prefer to experience wild adventures from a safe distance on a phone, computer, or a storybook in a cafe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived Harare airport for almost 9 hours in 2018! Crossed the treacherous Baboons Pass in Lesotho in a 4x4 in 2017! Got lost in Lesotho due to a faulty GPS and ended up driving the highest motorable pass in Southern Africa at 3 am! Dived the Lembeh straits in 2012 and saw the weirdest creatures. Was in London for the 2012 New Years. Ive been fortunate to be one of the team putting the 2010 Fifa World Cup together , have sun tanned on the banks of the Zambezi, fell asleep and got woken up when the crocs decided to have a closer look, walking thru Prague at 4 am, sunset in Mauritius, partied in London, New Years in Bangkok, Diving in the Red Sea, in SA touching my first elephant, playing with a lion cub, surviving Jozi rush-hour traffic daily, meeting some fab couch surfers, seeing snow fall on my garden in Johannesburg, joining a couch surfer for a trip from one side of Lesotho right accross the Drakensberg to the other side.

Countries I’ve Visited

Botswana, Czech Republic, Egypt, Indonesia, Lesotho, Mauritius, Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe
