About Me

I accept guests, but I say no to more than what I accept, so that's why it's "maybe accepting people". Please read the "My home" section before sending a request.

My name is William Chee-Awai, I am a Swedish/Caribbean guy living in Berlin since a few years back.

I moved to Berlin to practice my musicality, while living here I have hosted an open mic night, which took plenty of effort, but was really rewarding. I played many different small bars and venues around the city and have also created a band during my time here. I live for music and the performance of music. Cooking, travel, long philosophical conversations, going to galleries and just existing belongs to my hobbies and interests. I drink alot of coffee. Currently I am making many DIY gigs and tours, and I am also promoting my debut album "The Land of Thirst"

I'm ambitious, outgoing and curious. I've been described as a thinker. I care alot about the people around me and do my very best to take people's pronouns, lifestyle and dietary choices into consideration. In discussions I am open minded, I can see things out of different perspectives.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I joined Couchsurfing back in 2013 for a bicycle trip with a Swedish friend of mine that took us through Finland. Since then I have used it as a tool for touring with my music and making friends. Even though I am not a punk musician, the punk mentality of helping strangers resonates with me, and I have learned that being generous with your efforts and time will more often than not be reciprocated, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Since moving to Berlin I started hosting my own guests in 2021, as soon as I had my own place and the worst part of corona were over. I enjoy connecting with travellers who have their ways through the city. I enjoy the conversations, the company, the different points of view on life, the generosity and have had many memorable moments with different people who have had their ways through my home. The guests who come through here all bring their own different vibes and energies, and I am always reminded that there is a world out there outside the city limits of Berlin, even I am not traveling myself.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Via this community, I have met some of my best friends, both directly and indirectly. I met a friend through the Hangouts function when I was new in Berlin, and he happened to be from Egypt, and when he went back to Cairo, he invited me and some Swedish friends over. It was a crazy 2 weeks where we got a grand tour of the northern parts of Egypt (Cairo, Sinai and Alexandria) with many memories.

I have met many people who come from Europe who are all a stone throw away from Berlin, who either have come back to me, or whom I have visited in their respective home towns.

Interests

Music, guitar, cooking, basketball, jogging, movies, books, writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Psychedelic Rock, Reggae (!!!!), Classical Rock, Hip hop and Jazz. I tend to stay open minded for different kinds of music, and believe that some genres fit certain moments. For instance, I enjoy listening to techno and electronic music, but mainly when I am at a club.

Some artists I listen to often include Nicolas Jaar, Miles Davis, Funkadelic, Kendrick Lamar, Bob Dylan, Elliot Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Ocean (!!!!), Tyler the Creator, The Doors, Guts, Chinese Man, Pink Floyd, Madlib and BADBADNOTGOOD.

Movies - The Godfather pt. 1 and Lost in Translation

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the sun rise over Saudi Arabia from the beaches of Sinai in Egypt.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook and I play music.
If you play music and you have an extra guitar, I'd jam with you.
When on the road I enjoy being able to cook a nice meal.

I am talkative, and generally good at having conversations, and with the right company it usually flows pretty well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversations and a beer or two. I would cook for you if I have the chance, play music, listen to your gripes about life, help out in your home if you ever need assistance with stuff.

When I visit a host, I do enjoy spending time with them and seeing their town out of their perspective.

Countries I’ve Visited

Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Saint Barthélemy, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
