With loads of art, miles of beautiful beaches, and historic architecture reaching back for centuries, Malaga is one of the most beautiful cities in the southern Spanish province of Andalusia. One must-see attraction is the 11th-century Alcazaba, an impressive citadel and palace complex full of patios, gardens, and pools. Nearby, you can see the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater, where admission is free. Visit the Pablo Picasso Museum, home to a huge collection of works by Malaga’s most famous son.
Malaga has gorgeous beaches, so be sure to carve out some time in your schedule to relax in the sun. Head down to La Malagueta for the great surf, and don’t forget to try espetos, sardines skewered on a bamboo stick and grilled over a fire. If you’ve got the time, take a day trip to Ronda, where beautiful bridges and buildings line the ridges of a fantasy-movie landscape.
