If there’s one city in Turkey that slides perfectly into the groove of a laid-back, relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, it’s Antalya. It has become one of Turkey’s most visited cities because of its modern flair mixed perfectly with ancient history. Visitors should see the millennia-old arches of Hadrian’s Gate, stroll the streets of Kaleiçi (Old Town), and soak up the sun on Konyaaltı beach.

Experience the flavor of Antalya with local specialties like piyaz, made with fresh garlic, tahini, walnuts, and boiled beans, and sample some of the region’s finest olive oil. Relax and take in the incredible view from one of the tea gardens on the hilltop overlooking the city’s bustling harbor. A 15-minute trip north of the city will take you to Perga, the impressive remnants of an Anatolian city dating back to 1000 B.C. Nature lovers can take a short drive northeast from there to the gorgeous Upper Düden Waterfalls, and find the Lower Düden Falls flowing over cliffs and plunging directly into the blue-green Mediterranean Sea.
