Situated on the coast of Brazil, Florianopolis is a city split in two. The industrial part of the city lies on the mainland, while the historic center is found on the island across the bay. This is where most visitors choose to begin exploring this beautiful city; it’s where you’ll find some of Florianopolis’ best restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s also home to the Cathedral Metropolitana and the Public Market, the perfect places to find local clothes, foods, and souvenirs.

Not to be missed in Florianopolis is the Fortaleza de Santo Antonio, located on the small island of Raton Grande. This fort was built in the 18th century as a defense point for the Portuguese occupation of Colonia del Sacramento. After a long day of wandering the streets and exploring islands, make your way to one of Florianopolis’ 40 beaches (Barra da Lagoa or Praia Mocambique, to name a few) to soak up the sun and give surfing a shot.
