The Chico Mendes Reforestation Project is a community environmental project located in the K'iche' village of Pachaj, 8 km out of Quetzaltenango (Xela) in Guatemala. Volunteers are needed to work in the nursery and surrounding communal forest. Tasks include: the collection of seeds and planting soil, preparation of the soil for planting, preparation of seed beds, seedling cultivation and care, transplantation of seedlings, preparation of organic fertilizer to nourish the seedlings, environmental education, garbage collection and recycling, and more.

Since 1998, the Chico Mendes Reforestation Project has carried out its work with the support foreign volunteers, language students, as well as Guatemalan friends. In addition to individual donations, the project is sustained by proceeds from the Ixim Ulew Rural Language School, which offers language instruction in Spanish, K´iche´and Mam.

El proyecto de reforestación Chico Mendes es un proyecto comunitario de proteccion del medio ambiente ubicado en Pachaj, a 8 kilometros de Quetzaltenango (Xela). Necesitamos voluntarios para trabajar en el vivero y en el bosque comunal. Tareas incluyen:la colección de semillas y broza, preparación de suelo para siembra, preparación de semilleros, cultivo y cuido de semilleros, transplante de árboles, preparación de abono orgánico, educación medioambiental, colección y reciclaje de basura y much más.

Desde 1998, el proyecto Chico Mendes ha trabajado sin fines de lucro con el apoyo de voluntarios extranjeros y estudiantes de Español, tanto como amigas y amigos Guatemaltecos. Además de depender de donaciones individuales, el proyecto se sostiene por la recuadaciones de la escuela de idiomas Ixim Ulew que ofrece instrucción en español, k´iche´y mam.
