I am traveling around Europe for three months on my summer holidays, from May to August 2013. I will be staying with family and friends, and hope to couch surf in between!
Curiosity is a driving force in my life and I want to travel everywhere and meet everyone and read everything! I am an open minded, optimistic, adventure loving person, I have been influenced and inspired by books and people I have met. I am currently studying anthropology and chemistry at the University of Alberta and working part time at a second hand bookstore. I am applying to Nursing school in Edmonton for next year. I love studying! I like yoga and running. I volunteer at a community bike shed and a theatre, I am on the board of directors for the Alberta Public Interest Research Group which does social justice work in Edmonton, I recently learned to juggle and hula hoop. I love live music and poetry or story slams, festivals, dancing. Describing myself is hard! Read my references :)
My personal philosophy? ... ? I dont know how to even begin to explain it. It will be different tomorrow.
I know I am the happiest when exploring places and meeting people and learning things.
I think life is amazing, and incredibly exciting.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted and surfed and will again, and I love going to CS events!
I have had some house parties which I invited couchsurfers to, and it has been great to meet more people that way.
I heard of couchsurfing while hosteling in the summer of 2009, then I went to some Edmonton couchsurfing meetings and potlucks and loved them! I met really inspiring people and made good friends in Edmonton. I went to cafes, restaurants, shopping, movies with couchsurfers, I last minute hosted :)
I couchsurfed with 3 different awesome people in Auckland. then 3 people in Melbourne!
and then I hosted about 10 people in Melbourne. I went to Confest and Food Not Bombs with couchsurfers and met very good friends. then left Melbourne a year later, and couchsurfed for 2 weeks in Shanghai, now starting to host in Edmonton...
hosted 3 people in Edmonton!
I am up for trying almost anything. I love learning about culture, food, nature, travel! I love getting lost, because I always find the most wonderful things that way. I love theatre, and the Edmonton Fringe Festival, camping, and riding my bicycle.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I like to read about the lives of the authors I read. Sylvia Plath, David Foster Wallace, Oscar Wilde, Eileen Myles, had fascinating lives. My current favorite book is Stuffed and Starved-The hidden battle for the world food system by Raj Patel! Im fascinated with my Food Anthropology reader right now.and J.M. Coetzee.
right now im half way through Don Quixote by Cervantes (translated to English by Edith Grossman) and loving every word of it, and reading a graphic novel about the Rawandan genocide, A short introduction to Feminism, and The Outsider by Camus, and also Catching Fire-How Cooking Made us Human by Richard Wrangham, and have a very long list of books I want to read... I like Jostein Gaarder, Italo Calvino, Dougas Adams, or books about science. I love The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge. and research papers. or travel books. or historical fiction. even poetry!
Movies: I am always being pleasantly surprised by movies, I think I may like all genres, especially if they were not made in hollywood. some documentaries, some "foreign films".
Music: Canadian indie music and most other music too!
right now I am listening to http://radio3.cbc.ca/ and that is what I am usually listening to! or local independent station: CJSR 88.5 FM in Edmonton. I like mixed CDs in different languages!
I love live music, I saw a lot in Melbourne, and want to find more in Edmonton.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Moving to Melbourne for a year without knowing anyone and getting involved right away is something im pretty proud of doing :) Melbourne is amazing! I've done lots of impulsive things that have turned out well.

I have many opinions that are in the process of being formed, I am that naive undergrad university student... so I like learning. I love to hear about other people's philosophies.
