Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To explore and help others to do the same.
ABOUT ME
CS has added so much to my travels by making it easier to meet people. I like connecting with other travelers and local people.
I am interested in local music, food, nature, architecture and arts so will enjoy experiencing any of these with you. I like to share food and music and travel stories.
PHILOSOPHY
I would like to host people who give back to the Couchsurfing community. I would like to see that you have some references and perhaps have hosted someone.
I try to do things that are a little outside my comfort zone, to not let fear stop me. I think that often our fears keep us from finding wonderful treasures. For example I went on a meditation retreat and was so afraid of the required silence. How would I live without music or talking. It turned out to be such a wonderful gift. I also think fear is the source of many of the worlds problems. Fear is the root of racism and sexism. Fear is used to manipulate people into everything from selling insurance and beauty aids to going to war.
I am an evidence based scientific thinker. I enjoy the adventure and wonder of travel. As i age i am learning to accept my limitations but explore my possibilities.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I like to host when I am not traveling or hosting people i have met traveling. I mostly use CS to met local people and other travellers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have couch surfed and hosted, used ride share and also met local people and other travellers through CS. I have gone on trips arranged through the +50 group. It is fantastic to travel with others and to have the trip arranged by local people. I have made many new friends through couch surfing.
Interests
I am a cold water/open water swimmer. I swim most mornings when I am not travelling. I still enjoy motorcycling but just do day trips now. My old bones get sore but I still love riding. Other hobbies include gardening, collecting wild mushrooms, birding, sketching and painting with watercolour. I go out for live music at least once a week whether I'm at home or traveling. I enjoy almost everything from electronic, punk and hip hop to opera, old timey and folk but especially jazz. I enjoy attending music festivals. I am not too into country unless you are talking about people like Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt and Patsy Kline. I'm not at all into heavy metal or most rock.
I am quite political and would love to discuss politics with you but respect not everyone shares my interest.
Music, Movies, and Books
Just finished The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver. I like to alternate fiction and non-fiction and enjoy reading things that have something to say.
Enjoy comedy and social/political satire.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think the most amazing thing is human spirit. Seeing children laugh and smile in the slums of Calcutta or experiencing the kindness of people who have had such a hard life yet are so willing to share to to help.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a bit about science and nature. I could also share cooking and gardening skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I like to cook. I like to share music and experiences and ideas.
