About Me

I´m a medical doctor from the Netherlands and one of my biggest passions is to travel and work abroad! I´ve travelled a lot (central america, peru, india, nepal, thailand, georgia, armenia, albania, rwanda, uganda, most of west-europe ect) and worked in Rwanda and Suriname in 2014 in a hospital. Right now I´m traveling together with my boyfriend (also a medical doctor) through South America. We both love to learn about different cultures and lifestyles and explore the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I´ve been interested to join couch surfing for ages, I love the concept and it really suits the way I think about travelling and life! I didn´t join it before because we live in a small apartment without extra space and we both have very busy jobs as medical doctors so it was a bit difficult to be good hosts! Anyway, we are looking forward to our experiences with couchsurfing and we heard so many good stories so we are really looking forward to this adventure!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love many styles of music but some of my favourite artists are: Agnes Obel, Angus and Julia Stone, Damian Rice, Crowded House,

Movies: Frida, The motorcycle diaries, as it is in heaven

Books: Anna Karenina and War and Peace by Tolstoi, books from Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hanh, I love to read and I read many many books. When travelling I like to read books from authors from the countries I´m travelling to; right now I´m reading books from Isabel Allende (Potrait in Sepia at this moment)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A life changing experience was working on a surgical ophthalmology expedition in Nepal where we did cataract surgeries. We were in a very remote village were no foreigners had ever visited before; we were hosted so warmly and were really part of the community during these 5 days. I was extremely impressed that some people were blind for years and could see again after the surgeries. This made me decide I want to become an ophthalmologist and work in developing nations.
