My name is Alex, and by the time I leave for Europe I will be a recent college graduate. (As I write this I have about 3 months left.) I won't actually be leaving until January 2016, but I wanted to get a feel for how this website works before I take off.

I am planning on Au Pairing in Denmark for 6-8 months in 2016. During which, I would like to take as many trips to as many surrounding countries as I can. I am embarking on this journey alone, so I am hoping Couchsurfing will help me meet some people along the way.

I have never left the U.S before (yikes!) nor do I speak another language. (I wish we were taught other languages in grade school!) However, I have a sincere sense of wanderlust. I am dying to travel and to see the world. I want to experience other cultures, broaden my perspective, and learn new ways of living and experiencing the world. I am from a small Indiana town right outside of Louisville... and let's just say I would be the first girl ever to up and leave for Europe, completely solo. I love my town, but it is too small to fulfill my big dreams. I am totally terrified to leave, but not scared enough to stop me. :) I think it would be a true test of my adaptability, endurance and courage and I am up for the challenge! I am ready to grow as a person, do some soul searching and to get out of my comfort zone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I mentioned before, I will be traveling to Europe solo. I really hope this can be a tool to meet people, make friends and experience places through the eyes of a non-tourist. Also- totally open to meeting other travelers to be tourists together! haha. I want to be that old woman with a million stories to tell about all the wonderful people I met around the world. ;)

Interests

Yoga, history, all things outdoors, food, traveling (of course!), health/wellness, experiencing new things.

I'm a pretty simple girl, and I enjoy the simple things. A good book, good conversation over a delicious meal, a beautiful sunrise/sunset... you get the idea :) But I also have a desire for adventure, to face some of my fears and come out the other side a stronger person.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My favorites include The Rolling Stones, The Pixies, Modest Mouse, Florence and the Machine, Velvet Underground, The Shins, Neil Young, Dr. Dog, Billie Holiday, Muddy waters, The Strokes, Black Keys.... the list could go on and on! I really like a wide range of music. Anything with soul.

Movies: Couple of my favorites include Almost Famous, Into the Wild, Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Big Lebowski, Wild... Really anything directed by Quentin Tarantino or Wes Anderson I enjoy. I love movies that show a time in history, or pretty much anything with Bill Murray in it. Comedies, Action, Drama, I really enjoy it all!

I also like any sort of book or movie that opens my mind, and introduces a new way of thinking/interpreting things. I am definitely still learning and growing, and so anything that helps me along the way is much appreciated :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think leaving everything I've ever known behind and moving to Denmark for a while seems pretty amazing! Haha, although that is still in the future.

I would like to think I have a fun spirit. I really do enjoy meeting new people and learning new things. I'm a yoga instructor, so we could always do some yoga if you want! :)
