Overview
About Me
I'm a nomad right now. Just finished teaching last semester and decided it was time to try going and being somewhere else, so I gave away all my stuff and got on a bus.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to explore new places and meet new people. I particularly want to try and understand new places from the perspective of people who know them.
Interests
Well, there's the obvious interest in new places and how they work and exploring differences in culture. I'm also very into drinking things. Coffee, tea, beer, wine, liquor...I've either cultivated a taste or am working on it, and enjoy all the details that go into why things are delicious.

Music, Movies, and Books
Would it be cliche to admit I'm reading Le Guin's "The Dispossessed" right now? (Update: finished it, set it free.) The heroes of my youth were Asimov and Vonnegut.
I love music and there's so much! Especially live music. Some of the best shows I've seen...The Mountain Goats, St. Vincent (once when she was on tour with David Byrne!), Doc Watson, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Wye Oak (opening for Okkervil River), Baths, Killer Mike, Man Man...also absolutely any time I have an opportunity I'll see Owen Pallett. That man is absolutely incredible.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most recently I suppose it was the change of occupation from "unemployed adjunct" to "Adventurer!"
What I Can Share with Hosts
I have stories for sure! But most people have those. More specialized things...I've taught and tutored upper level chemistry classes for years, so I can probably help you with your homework. Also I'm pretty handy in the kitchen; I became a vegetarian as a small child which meant learning from a young age how to cook vegetables in ways that are palatable to a mass audience, and am always happy to share.
Also, from a practical standpoint, I tend not to have any actual plans in places where I'm surfing, and love any excuse to go wander into town and figure out how to navigate the transit. So if you want a volunteer to run any errands I'm totally down.
Countries I’ve Visited
Canada, Costa Rica, England, France, Mexico, Peru
