About Me

ballerina - pianist - linguist - teacher - based on a German speaking mom and a Turkish speaking father, sharing both identities inside of me. - graduated from the Austrian high school Istanbul, had seen the brightest of Europe and darkest of Istanbul, and the other way around. I combined both perspectives and created my own perspective on life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

to meet interesting people with interesting stories. I believe each of us has an inevitable role in another’s story. We are building a collective story when we are around of each of us, which we later call ‘life’.

Why not being part of it and have a brave move in it, while still on earth?

Interests

I give piano, ballet, German and English lessons to people of every age for many years. I love learning and teaching at the same time. To me, both skills challenges me to be a more progressive human being with a broader mind.

Music, Movies, and Books

All Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufmann, Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman‘s films.

Such as the Science of Sleep: a creative love story between Charlotte Gainsbourg and Gael Garcia Bernal, with hand-crafted setting, very unique.

Being John Malkovich: a film inside of John Malkovich’s head. Old-school and genial.

My favourite TV-Series is Mozart in the Jungle: a story of a Mexican conductor with a free mind, starting to bring the NY Symphony Orchestra from an elite spectrum to a funnier, more natural spectrum. The main role is again on Gael Garcia Bernal, very talented man with a humble manner of looking at life, at stage, at film and its production. He is a leftist and created many syndicates in his hometown. he is a fighter of injustices of his culture and tries to eliminate them with the power of art.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having done my Interrial with the age of 17, did my first couchsurfing experience, my first time visiting Holland, Amsterdam, Zwolle. I like Dutch people, they are quite friendly and open to talk.

Participating to a Ballet Summer School in Gdańsk, Poland.

Stayed at a host in a village called Campagne Rastoin, a village from 18th century in Aix-En-Provence, I learned permaculture and composting. Met great people there.

I visited Lyon and drove to Paris by a van, which then I joined the concert of Ibrahim Maalouf, a talented Lebanese trombonist with unique music, then I stayed at an occupied house in Montreuil, a district in Paris, that we shared with independent artists. Every furniture was collected from outside and I slept in gymnastic mattresses. I liked their view on life and the alternative life style they created. They gave me some stage costumes such as gypsy skirts and some winter jacket, which I still keep.

I have been to Salzburg with my high school and exchange friends, when I was 15, we’ve stayed at a camping place, we’ve stared at the dark sky with full of bright stars at night, we have eaten delicious Käsespätzle (Austrian Mac and Cheese) and Kaiserschmmarn. I have still contact with the friends I made in this exchange project of Salzburg and Istanbul.

Last summer, I’ve visited a close friend in Graz and I find it there beautiful with a lot of opportunities for an art student there. I’ve learned that the municipality is leftist there, so the rents are lower!
