À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

There are three things I enjoy most in life. Travel, Nature and Art. My mission is quite obvious. I want to travel this planet, see as much as there is to see, be inspired by everything, and try to make things better for nature and for us.

ABOUT ME

Talkative, energetic, friendly and open-minded, I'm a new lover of the Couchsurfing experience. My couch is open for anyone willing to surf it.

About me: Heh, that's a big story. It's always hard writing about yourself...
First and foremost, I am the firstborn son of a Greek-Dutch family currently residing in Athens. I have five younger brothers, and love everyone of them (though everyday life with them can show the opposite). My mother is Dutch, mainly, with Indonesian descent, and is one of the grandchildren of one of the people I admire most of: the count, painter, poet and occultist Laurens van Kuik. My father, on the other hand, is surprisingly normal, being a pure-blooded Greek (although he has an IQ rate of about 170 something). I also have 1 uncle in Greece, 3 uncles, 3 aunts and about 15 cousins in the Netherlands, 1 cousin in Portugal and about 20 cousins all over the rest of the world.

Now, after having finished the last of what's left at school, I've taken my first decisive steps into the life of a student. I started studying "Docent of Visual Arts" in the Willem de Kooning Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Turned out a flop, so I'm switching to philosophy at the Leiden University.

As a person I can be quite an extrovert. I am an open book to people; always honest (I'm an extremely bad liar. For some reason it always shows, so I stopped trying), extremely (sometimes unnervingly) talkative, friendly, and always quick to get to know new people. I value friendship, just for the sake of it. Sometimes, on the other hand, I can be hot-headed, stubborn, and arrogant, and, though I try to suppress such feelings in favor of nicer ones, they tend to surface from time to time...

Some random facts: I love nature, every part of it, animals, landscapes, forests, seas, mountains, I'm not discriminatory about nature; I've tried belonging to several subcultures and ideals in the past. I have had a metalhead era, a goth era, a pagan era etc. Now I am just myself, although some would want to describe me as some kind of postmodern-neohippie-cowboy-wannabe-artsyfartsypants-philosophical-mystic, which is fine by me; I like meat, except when it has lots of fat on it; I love eating fish, and I'm pro healthy diet, but more because I grew up with it; I am a romantic guy; I'm a smoker, and I occasionally drink; I love wines, beer, shag and pipe tobacco; I tend to want to enjoy the simple joys of life (see personal philosophy for more); I am an activist in the Saving Iceland project; I like gaming, mostly RPGs, whether pen&paper or PC; I like reading till my eyes pop out; I have really really bad eyes; I play the piano, the mandolin, the violin, the viola, the bodhrán, and the mouth harp, all bad; I want to start playing the musical saw; I write my own music, ranging from dark ambient to harsh noise and nu-folk; I have a varied sense of humor, depending on inspiration, sometimes it's clever, other times just plain stupid; I wore my hair long since I was ten years old and take great pride in my hair; I like wearing simple clothes; I tend to always be at the center of attention, but in a quite unusual manner; I want to retire to Iceland when I'm older... More will be added, I think.

PHILOSOPHY

I am an sensationalist. So I want to experience as many things as possible.
Life is beautiful, there's no denying that. Try to live life in its fullest. Experience as much as you can. See all there is to see... Learn to appreciate the simple joys of life. The cold water slapping on your back, the icy mountain breeze in your face, the hearty drink in some tavern. Smelling a flower can be as exhilarating an experience as traveling to the moon -not that one should not attempt the latter.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: Oh, that's a tough one. I love music. I actually write and record music myself. I actually think I'm capable of listening to everything. But I have a slight preference for the following genres (in no particular order): Naturalismo (nu-folk, indie folk, freak folk call it what you will), pagan folk, post rock, shoegaze, dream pop, classical and neo-classical, neofolk, industrial, post industrial, hip hop, trip hop, free jazz, avant-garde, musique concréte, noise music, metal (stoner/sludge, symphonic, "true" black etc.), ambient, dark ambient, new age, IDM, glitch, drum & bass, GOA trance, psitrance, worldbeat, celtic, soundtracks, post punk, gothic rock, darkwave, ethereal etc.

Movies are another difficult-to-chose-terrain. I like filmhouse movies a lot, and I tend to enjoy most not-your-ordinary-hollywood-movie movies. I also love the old black and white movies and silent films. Documentaries are also something I enjoy. No specific genres here.

Books... Ouch... Here comes the hardest part. Anything philosophical, I guess, would be the best way to describe the books I prefer. I like some fantasy literature as well. I usually hate bestsellers, for some reason.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Every breath I take can be amazing, actually.
But seriously, now. I haven't done anything really great for a long time.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can teach some of the language I already know, and I always like new ones. I really want to learn Icelandic, and, even though I've taken my first steps in teaching the language myself, some help would be appreciated immensely. I'd also love to learn Spanish. I could teach something of music, be it a musical instrument, or a musical genre I'm specialized in and also I'd like to learn some extra instruments. If you play mandolin or musical saw let me know. I can also teach some basics in Art. Best thing I can do, however, is having a conversation, and the best way to teach and learn some things, like philosophy, for example, is talking and arguing. So if you're interested in learning anything from me, just look up my interests, and open a conversation. I'd be happy to share anything I know.
