ABOUT ME

"Whatthe Animalssay is a singer songwriter from the Isle of Man. For four years he toured the local scene in London, under the name 100th Monkey, releasing four albums. For legal reasons he had to drop the handle and became stage-nameless. Disappointed with the London acoustic scene he decided to give up on the conventional musicians life style and leave England to find inspiration within constant movement and exploration. Merging his talent for writing about real experiences, both exciting and mundane, with his desire to see the world. Whatthe Animalssay has coined the term Road composer. A vanguard for this new ideal, Whatthe Animalssay has veered away from the staple of touring and gigging to become a traveling cyber composer. By posting songs instead of blogs, uploading prerecorded shows from various locations world wide, and adding to his long list of places that inspire, Whatthe Animalssay is in the process of becoming a leader in a purely cyber musical movement. In 2006 he went to India where he spent a year composing an album and experiencing the subcontinent with his guitar. Late in 2007, when traveling Iceland, the new name Whatthe Animalssay came to him whilst staring at a mountain. He recorded his India album,Cos789, at Appletree Studios in Seattle, USA. His last album,'The Bars and the Bird', was recorded on the Isle of Man whilst saving for his next compositional excursion.

Whatthe Animalssay has been likened to Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, Iron and Wine, and Bon Iver for his minimal accompaniment sound. Whatthe Animalssay sings about everything from time zone induced insomnia, homesickness, longhaired liberty, becoming a drunk, and metaphoric Siamese twins; all accompanied by mathematical and melodic finger picked guitar. He is currently living in Hanoi teaching English and working on an album with the material written there.
