About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to figure out what my inner voice is trying to tell me.

ABOUT ME

I'm a bit intense, pretty politically-minded, and fairly quirky. Slightly neurotic, but have been practicing meditation so I can be a little more chill. The best thing anyone has ever said about me is that I'm egalitarian. That's how I'd like to think of myself.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm dedicated to being rigorously honest with myself and others and to being open to letting myself be changed by my experiences. I really don't want to be the same person in 5 years as I am today. I love learning and hope I never stop growing and finding new nooks and crannies inside my head and heart. It makes every day pretty damn exciting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've really enjoyed showing people around and meeting up to hang out and trying to sort of figure out a fun place to give people a good sense of what Louisville is about.

**NOTE**
At the outset, I should be very clear that I am only interested in couchsurfing for meeting people who are genuinely invested in this communal project. I have no trouble finding dates on my own, so even though I hang out with people (including dudes) over beer, it's not like "that." Couchsurfing is way too bad-ass to be used as a dating website, so please understand that although I'm super friendly and warm, I am most definitely NOT seeking more than friendship and conversation on here. Make NO mistake about that, please! If you want to be friends, great! If you want a date, please go to an ACTUAL dating website.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, it's been nothing but positive. Everyone I've met has been open-minded and generous with their time and conversation.

Interests

I'm a slow learner, I must say. I like to think, analyze, and understand things as thoroughly as possible before I can let them go. And even then, I usually keep twisting and turning them around, just for kicks. I'm in a phase of my life now where I want to move and experience new things. I've been a Kentucky girl my whole life and have been in school non-stop since preschool. I just finished a PhD and that means there are absolutely no ties to bind me right now. I love my friends and family and my hometown of Louisville, KY, but I feel like it's finally time for me to strike out into unknown territory. I'm into movies and music, so I love to go out and enjoy both, but my favorite thing probably has to be going out with people and just talking and taking it all in.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love hearing live music. I'm into films (and plays, and performance art), and my two favorite directors are Paul Thomas Anderson and Charlie Kaufman. I will never get over the film, 'Synecdoche, NY.' Never. I've been forever changed by it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When my grandmother (who raised me) was dying, she was pretty drugged-up on pain meds and was generally confused and unaware of her surroundings. But for just a split-second, while we were wheeling her over to her favorite recliner to sit for a few minutes, she looked up at me with the clearest eyes and I felt such joy that she was seeing me right then. All I wanted was for her to know she was with people who loved her, and I saw that in her face for that moment. It was a real gift.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a hell of a researcher. I love helping people track down whatever it is they need, and while my specialty is academic research, I generally like and do pretty well with amateur sleuthing. I have a nose for it. I'm kind of nosy.

I want to learn all about the ins and outs and nitty gritty and boring, tedious details of travel from people who do it. I'm very curious about other people, so every single experience people share with me is a chance for me to learn!
