About Me
Hi! We are Cande and Angel, a Mexican couple on sabbatical, a biologist and a chef, united by our passion for nature, travel and cultural exchange. Cande is a biologist with experience in environmental education projects and environmental research. I am a chef instructor with experience as a university professor in culinary and social research.
I have lived and worked in Spain, while Cande has traveled throughout Europe, volunteered with the Scouts in Canada and worked with the UN in Cambodia. Our passion for nature comes from our experience in the scouting youth movement.
We have developed an aptitude for teaching, writing and photography. We also enjoy artistic expressions such as painting, but above all we believe that travel is more than just getting around;
It is a way to exchange knowledge, flavors and world views, leaving a positive impact.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe that travel is about building bridges between people, ecosystems and perspectives. To know the vision of another culture you need to talk to them, to understand in the most respectful way, that my point of view is not absolute.
I explore the world with curiosity, respect and a taste for the unexpected.
Interests
I am fascinated by how cuisine reflects identity, history and connection to the land. Whether teaching Mexican gastronomy, cooking in local kitchens or learning ancestral recipes, I believe that food is one of the most powerful ways to understand and celebrate a culture.
We love trips that allow me to live like a local, whether it's traveling by motorhome, volunteering on organic farms or trading culinary knowledge for stories. For me, sustainability is not just about traveling with reduced impact, but about leaving a place richer than I found it, through knowledge and genuine exchange.
We love to admire nature: Hiking, trekking and exploring have taught me how to see the world. I am drawn to wild places, national parks, remote villages, coastal trails, where I can disconnect to reconnect.
We like to hear the stories of the locals, see paintings, murals, photographs and are gifts of beauty and lessons from travel. I am especially inspired by the worldviews of life and the intersection of ecology and tradition.
I like martial arts, I am an instructor of a small academy of jiujitsu and self-defense, I have practiced aikido and mixed martial arts.
my wife has done collaborations with the UN, learning that the most meaningful projects are born out of listening. she loves to give environmental awareness workshops.
we look for impromptu dinners and any opportunity to exchange knowledge. we like to think that random things are enriching.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The adventure truly began in 2021 when my wife and I road-tripped through central Mexico in our self converted camper. Hiking through majestic landscapes and discovering hidden treasures prepared us for our ultimate journey: a life changing two month road trip along the U.S. West Coast in 2023. Living minimally out of our car, we immersed ourselves in America's most spectacular national parks from the Grand Canyon's vast depths to Yellowstone's geothermal wonders, Yosemite's towering cliffs, and Grand Teton's jagged peaks
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to share the vibrant flavors and traditions of my Mexican heritage. As a chef, I enjoy cooking authentic dishes, from handmade tortillas and mole to fresh ceviche and international recipes. Food is my love language, and there is no better way to connect than sharing a meal.
Beyond cooking, I'm happy to swap travel stories, tips for a trip. I also love photography, a bit of martial arts, we are an open book to many possibilities.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We can help with daily chores, such as cooking and cleaning, but we are also interested in knowing and living the usual tasks of the locals.
Of course we can teach some of the skills that we master, cooking, photography, salsa, self-defense,
