About Me

I'm Jing. I grew up in Canada and China and have been living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for the last 7 years. I recently finished my teaching contract and have decided to take a year off to travel and learn new things. This chapter of my life is extremely exciting for me, and I look forward to having new experiences and making new connections, all while nourishing my mind and body.

Life is pretty busy for me. When I work full-time, I also pursue multiple hobbies during the week, including sewing, dancing zumba, and Kun Khmer. I love trying new restaurants in the city and learning new things about Phnom Penh, connecting with friends, and exploring the city. Now that I have stopped working, I am looking forward to having some more free-time, but knowing myself, life will probably still be quite busy!

When I travel, I like to have a taste of what life is like in that place. I want to be able to find my local cafe and supermarkets, begin to establish a routine, and start making connections with others during my time there. If possible, I like to stay at least a week in one place so that I can begin to feel a little more "at home". There is typically some aspect of cultural exchange and routine, and the last few solo trips I have had all included language learning, like taking Spanish lessons in Malaga and Japanese lessons in Tokyo.

I would like to host people who feel the same way as me, who would like to stay in my home for a week or longer, so they can enjoy getting to know what life in Phnom Penh is like. As a foreigner, I can't say I'm very integrated into Cambodian society, but the lens that I see through is also unique and I would be happy to share that with my guests. I won't be available all the time to hang out, but I'm happy to connect with you and spend time together whenever possible.

My plans for the next two months are: taking Japanese lessons, learning more about photography as I have recently purchased a camera, teaching English online, exploring the city, and continuing with my hobbies. If we share any interests, please let me know when you write me, and I'd be happy to do things together.
