About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Seeing the world and meeting people!

ABOUT ME

Hi! I have lots of current interests and a even longer list of future interests. I like to learn things, be creative, and try to live intentionally. My job is important to me and embodies things I believe in strongly - i.e. supporting public, K12 education. I believe education is key to building a stronger society and individuals. I also have friends whom I've known for 20 or 30 years and that makes me happy.

A few years ago, I quit my job and traveled for a year. It was one of the best years of my life. I was lucky enough to travel to Indonesia, India, Italy, Morocco, Scandinavia, and South America.

Currently, I help manage a social venture that seeks to support and improve public education and charter schools across the US.

PHILOSOPHY

People are the one thing that truly make travel meaningful, hilarious, touching, and deep. They are more important than the historic monuments, beautiful art, and tasty food experienced (though those are all great too). I look forward to meeting and learning from kind, open, and fun people from different cultures and sharing our perspectives and laughs.

I am a very respectful, considerate guest and love learning about local culture and people. I would like to share conversations with my hosts, but if they are busy I am ok being on my own. I am careful not to make too much noise while staying with others to respect their space.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Any and all!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had some really good surfing experiences wherever I've tried it. I've made some good friends, had many wonderful conversations, learned so much, and laughed.

So far, I haven't been able to host since I live in a small in-law unit. But I'd love to host at some point.

Interests

I love music. Playing guitar, singing karaoke, writing bad songs, listening to bands. I also like hiking, camping, seeing friends, yoga/meditation, reading, and comedy. Wanna discuss BBC sitcoms? Of course I also really enjoy travel.

I'm a horrible cook but my goal is to improve. I studied cooking in Italy but haven't been able to practice much. Maybe you can teach me a dish?

Music, Movies, and Books

Many - I like all kinds of music but mainly listen to indie rock. I like reading fiction and the New Yorker. I like comedies, documentaries, and good TV shows (Friday Night Lights, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year I wrote a novel for National Novel Writing Month. It's a horrible book, but I finished! That accomplishment made me realize I could do many other things I was putting off. I'd love to do more writing, so that's another thing on my list.

I also did a 10-day meditation retreat which was one of the hardest things I've chosen to do, but it changed my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to teach you a little guitar. Or sing a song with you. Or discuss the future state of capitalism :)
