About Me

On the slopes of a big gentle mountain of northern Greece there is a tiny village, our home. Easy to reach by train from Edessa and Thessaloniki, on the crossroads of those entering Greece from the north.

I am setting roots in this place now but I come from a tiny arid island of the south. I also spent a few years away studying in Holland, England and India.

Now we are a team of four teachers who decided to start a school of practical knowledge for the children of the region. Each season has a special focus here, we study in the winter, cultivate the land in the spring, build in the summer and harvest in autumn.

Our vision is to cultivate a new education, a sustainable school in the centre of a botanic garden. The garden provides for the school and also offers the best educational environment for our children. This is an ongoing project and you can see it here: www.facebook.com/spiresporo

A very important aspect of our school is inviting people to teach their art/craft/profession to our pupils. Or maybe to speak about distant places and adventurous travels. If you come to surf with us please think of an interaction with the children and share something you know with them.

Travellers who cross our region and need help with anything please get in touch, hospitality is a tradition here.

As mentioned above this place follows the seasons; sometimes we are happy to host, some other times there is just work and work and work.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The main reason I do it now is to help connections to form between travelers and the local children. There have been a few great "meetings" and of course a couple of awkward ones too.
In the past when I was on the road it was a great way to ease in at a new place and make good friends.

Interests

Basically anything I do is connected with our school where I teach music, woodworking, gardening, cooking and lego building!
