About Me

Introducing myself has always been a weak spot for me. Because on one hand nobody wants to give a bad impression, but on the other hand where do you draw the line between talking about things you’re proud of and just ego boosting. So, I always try to avoid talking about myself.

I’m a small girl (or just quite short) from Estonia, who always seems to be in the right place at the wrong time and loves almost everything.

One night I had a dream and after that I left everything behind and moved to India. I lived and worked as a volunteer in orphanage for more than 7 months and then went to Thailand and Cambodia to travel.

When I finally reached to home, I decided to go after my other dream - becoming a doctor and that's what im am now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My dream continued after my work as a volunteer. The next step was seeing the world. So I joined Couchsurfing. I found out about CS when I travelled to Kanyakumari, India and was in need of place to stay. Hotels and hostels are nice, but a hotel is not a home. How could you experience the culture of a country if you don’t get to know the people that live there. Meeting new people is a joy of mine.

Interests

I love to read and write poems about people I have met in my travels. In leisure time, I enjoy hiking and walking around city just see the views. I love being spontaneous, maybe start knitting again or go diving.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to almost everything, but there are some artists I prefer when I’m home alone, but usually it depends on my mood. (Once I had a dream that music critics said my spotify playlist was the most random and erratic thing they have ever listened to. So I hope they never find it.)

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. My favorite writer is definitely Murakami, but overall I prefer to read classics like Bulgakov, Tolstoy, Wilde etc, but I also read new or modern books. Two of my long time favorites are Lionel Shriver’s “We need to talk about Kevin” and Jonatan Safran Foer’s “Extremely loud and incredibly close”. I believe that you actually can’t fully convey the meaning without losing pieces of it, so I prefer to read literature in their native language if possible.

When it comes to movies, I used to be the one who always fell asleep during them . However, since then I have gained an appreciation for a few movies. “Fight club”, "My neighbour Totoro", "My blueberry nights", “Grand Torino”, “The Lunchbox”, “Memento” and the movie about how Russians catch fishes(I think I laughed whole movie) are probably my favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My biggest accomplishment is writing my own poetry collection, which I was at first hesitant to share with others.
If that doesn’t count, the most challenging experience I’ve had is moving to Kadapa, (a village in India) where even winter is way hotter than Estonian summers.

Teach, Learn, Share

My goal is to see the countries I visit not only as a tourist but more as a local. Trip advisor might say where the food is okay, but it’s not the same as seeing places through locals’ eyes. (I’m willing to learn and see everything new that my hosts want to share with me.)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories from both my home-countries. I can introduce them to the Estonian kitchen and then tell them stories of my previous travels.
