About Me

I am a 2nd year student studying geosciences in the University of Helsinki. I am passionate about nature and love spending time in nature. I am also deeply concerned about climate change, biodiversity loss and other environmental issues. That is why I chose to study geosciences, because through my studies I have learned ways to impact the society in environmental issues. I am also trying to be vegan and I don't eat meat!

During my free time I love to hike, ski or cycle. I like meeting new people and travelling around the world. I am also seeking ways to travel more sustainably. But my free time mostly involves being in the nature. I also like to watch series or films in Netflix and occasionally I bake.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel and meet new people. I want to encourage people to travel and accommodation is one of the major issues when thinking about travelling. That's why I'm on Couchsurfing, because I want to help people find places to stay and when I am travelling myself, I hope to find places to stay and get the chance to chat with people from different cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like pop music. Especially dance pop. My favorite movies or series are action films and comedies, for example Mission Impossible or Friends. I also like scifi films or disaster films. My favorite books are about environmental issues, such as climate change.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have gone rafting in the biggest rapids where you are allowed to raft in Finland. This took place in Northern Finland in a place called Kuusamo. It was awesome and exciting! Luckily it was a warm summer, so the water wasn't so cold ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

Thoughts about different kind of environmental issues and how you can make an impact on them. Personally I try to eat vegan food and I recycle everything I can. I try to buy as little material as possible, and for example when buying clothes or furniture, I always check first if any of my friends have any. Then I go to recycling centers or try to buy second-hand products. I travel as much as I can via public transportation and trains, and I have my own car which operates on biofuel.

In future I want to do research on climate change and find ways to extract minerals sustainably, so that it is possible to have green transition sustainably. This is what I am studying in geosciences, and I am learning all the time processes that impact the Earth. I am also in a student network called the Environmental Committee of the Student Union in the University of Helsinki, where I have met students who share their concern on environmental issues.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live in Vantaa which is located about 20 km north of Helsinki. It is possible to get to the center of Helsinki by train in 30 minutes. Trains run every 10 minutes. Helsinki is a beautiful place, and if I happen to have time I can show you around, but at least I can give tips about visiting Helsinki and the capital area.

Helsinki has many beautiful sights and the capital area has many beautiful nature areas. There is a national park in Espoo (northwest of Helsinki) and in Sipoo (east of Helsinki). There's also a great place to hike, have picnics and to watch birds by a bay in Helsinki.

The capital area of Helsinki has very good public transportation. You can get around by train, metro, tram, buses or ferries.
