关于我
Hi! I'm Aaron and I'm a Canadian living abroad :)
Technically I’m an engineer but I’ve been travelling for almost 2 years now. While I still have a passion for engineering, there are other things like travel and philosophy, that I am incredibly passionate about and have not yet had the opportunity to explore.
Last year, I moved to Spain, where I taught English in the southern region of Andalucia. Living in a different country with a foreign language was a very challenging but also very meaningful life experience, and I've learned a lot about who I am and who I want to continue to be.
Following up on this experience, I decided to move abroad again, this time to Japan. I've been living in Hokkaido since December working in hospitality. This experience once again pushed my boundaries and forced me out of my comfort zone. I have learned so much about Japan by living here, but I'm always excited by the idea of meeting locals and exploring new places. I'd love to get to know more Japanese people and learn about the Japanese way of life. I'm planning a big trip through Korea and Southeast Asia starting in May, and I'm looking for friends to share my experiences with :)
I've been accepted to the biomedical engineering masters program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. I'm starting in September and I'm really excited about the opportunities this presents for the future.
我为什么加入 Couchsurfing
I am very passionate about exploring and travelling different parts of the world. Being raised in Toronto, I had a very multicultural upbringing that pushed me to be curious about different countries and cultures. My family endorsed travel a lot when I was a kid, and I've travelled to over 30 countries to date (though the number is higher if you include member states of the U.S. like Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands).
In every new experience I have had, what sticks out to me isn't the things I've seen or done, but always the people I meet and the conversations I have. Couchsurfing is, as such, appealing to me because it allows me to meet locals from different parts of the world that I travel to, directly providing me with an outlet to create these new experiences and meet these new people. I'm not sure where my next adventures will take me, but I'm fascinated to see what kinds of new lessons I can learn from the people I meet there.

音乐、电影和书籍
I'm not very picky when it comes to the media I consume, my interests are a bit all over the place.
I listen to a bit of everything when it comes to music. The last few months I've been trying to crack into electronic music, I've found a lot of dance and deep house stuff that I really like. I've been into afrobeats for a while too and always try to keep up with new music coming out of both Western and Southern Africa. I've been listening to Rap music for years now and have a few favourites. I'm also really into international stuff and listen to a lot of Spanish music since I'm trying to learn that language. All that being said, my favourites will always be a mix of Indie and 60s-70s Rock.
I'm also a big movie lover and will watch anything except for horror. My favourite movies of all time are The Usual Suspects, Inglorious Basterds, and Inception. I keep a list of movies to watch and am always taking recommendations. My next project is to work through Taika Waititi's older works including "What We Do in the Shadows" and "Hunt for the Wilderpeople".
I don't read as much as I should but I get really fascinated by books that are personal to me. Right now, I'm trying to read some Japanese literature (to help me better understand the culture here) -- I'm starting with Norweigan Wood by Murakami. I'd like to read books by Salman Rushdie because the history and impact of his novels fascinates me.
我做过的一件不可思议的事情
I'm in the midst of doing an amazing thing right now, living and working in a part of the world completely foreign to me. I made the decision to move to Japan despite not knowing anyone here and barely knowing anyone who speaks Spanish. I'm very proud of my decision to push myself, trying completely new things and exploring a completely different side of myself.
Travel wise, the most amazing thing I've done was a month long trip to Africa in 2015. As part of this trip I adopted a baby elephant, slept on the Makgadikgadi salt pans in Botswana, and rode a sidecar through the streets of Cape Town. I'd be happy to tell you more about how this trip came to be and more of my wacky experiences in person.
教,学,和分享
I have a degree in physics which means I have plenty to teach and share that most people probably don't understand much about. Part of the reason I'm so passionate about physics is because studying it feels as if you're uncovering the secrets to the universe. I find that the closer we look at reality, the more we see its intricacies lie in complete unison with our subjective experience. Many physicists (such as Schrodinger and Einstein) in the 20th century came to this same realization and wound up following a path of philosophy after releasing their discoveries. My knowledge in this field completely reshaped my world view and I love to talk about it to anyone who will listen.
I'm a lifelong learner and have a very open perspective. I was raised to always be open to people from different parts of the world and try to see the good in people. This was enhanced as a child being raised in Toronto around people from all over the world. I love hearing people's stories and learning about where they come from and why they made the choices they did. Hopefully you can share yours with me :)

I can always be counted on for a positive attitude. I'm a big believer that in every experience, your mindset going in will dictate the outcome, so having a positive mindset will completely change your life perspective.
I also think I have an unstoppable adventurous spirit and am always looking for a new place to explore and thing to do. Putting myself in unfamiliar territory has lead to some incredible life experiences, and continuing to do so will only further that.
These two personality traits shine through in meeting me and I hope to pass positivity into every person I meet. Hopefully we can share some good memories together :)
