Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. -- Steve Jobs
I love the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest, but want to travel the world for a bit. Unfortunately I am somewhat stuck ina thing called college, taking all sorts of silly classes so I can wave a piece of paper in the air like Chamberlain proclaiming that I am a genius (or at least know a few things). Anyway, I can't wait to get to Europe, hopefully to work for a few years at the very least, so I can explore and experience it. I have been to China, Mexico and Canada, but haven't been east of Indiana.
There are always possibilities.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My life is in a bit of flux at the moment, so my couch has been retired for the time being. I am planning on volunteering with the website, which is a bit clunky in my opinion. It could use some graphic design principles and people looking at it in depth.
Just a few get-togethers with some friends and, of course, the planner of all planners, Rose. Spent some time surfing in British Columbia.
I have tons of interests, but my primary focus right now is getting a PhD in history so I can teach. I also want to write a few books. I have started a few, but non-fiction is very labor intensive, all of that fact-checking and whatnot. I love history and how it relates to me personally, which explains why I also like genealogy.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy all sorts of things. Books, art, films, family, TV, photography, radio. A great biography is Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. I love Once Upon a Time in the West. It's a great flick. The score is very cool, too. Papillon is a lesser known Steve McQueen film that's very underrated. Braveheart is another that comes to mind.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I ran for mayor of my hometown just after graduating from high school. Thankfully I lost, but learned quite a bit and loved the experience.
I had a wild time in China on a scouting trip with my friend Carl. We were detained and nearly arrested for traveling to an area supposedly off limits to foreigners. (We were given prior permission.)
He lives there now with his wife and kids, teaching English. I will tell more highlights if we meet sometime.
Teach, Learn, Share
It's cool. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.
