About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To plan next week's summer camp, learn more Ukrainian folk songs, be a better teacher, traveler, writer.

ABOUT ME

I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Bar, Ukraine. Bar is thus named because long ago, when the city was under control of a Polish prince, that Polish prince married an Italian Princess, who came from the Italian city of 'Bari.' So the town of Bar was named and presented to her as a birthday gift. Or something.

Other noteworthy things about the town include our lovely park, the River Ryv, and the house of an old Polish writer who was somewhat important though I can't remember his name right now. Bar has about 20,000 people and is an hour away from the city of Vinnytsya.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since I live with a host family, I can't offer up a couch, but I'm happy to show someone around Bar or Vinnytsya, or even the nearby city of Kamianets Podilsky (about three hours from Bar.) If you'd like to have an authentic Ukrainian meal with a family or have a jolly Ukrainian fellow play you folk songs on the accordion, I can probably arrange that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Herded over 50 cows in the Ukrainian countryside. Human-to-cow ratio was 3 : 53.
