About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn new things, see new things, meet new people. To live, to laugh, to love, to take risks, have adventures and experience all life has to offer.

ABOUT ME

Abby:
I studied Psychology at Victoria University of Wellington, whilst working as a caregiver for intellectually handicapped children, until a sudden need for change found me working in Workforce Management for one of NZs biggest call centres. A career move I'm not sure whether I will stick with.

I come from a family who have always travelled a lot, and travelled a lot myself when I was a child. I grew up with my older brother and my mother in Wellington, and did the majority of my travelling before I turned 13. It is now time to change this, and who better to do it with than my best friend?

Megan:
I have a degree in Computer Science from Otago University in Dunedin.

I've lived my whole life in New Zealand, and have never before left the country (apart from going to Australia once, and when you're from New Zealand, that doesn't count), but have always wanted to experience what the rest of the world has to offer.

Us:
We met in high school, and have always planned to go travelling together. After university we flatted together and decided to make the plan a reality. So we are both leaving our lives behind and riding off into the sunset to meet our fates.

PHILOSOPHY

Things will always turn out right in the end, if it's not right it's not the end. ~ Indian Proverb (The Best exotic Marigold Hotel)

At the end of your life you will regret the things you didn't do FAR more than the things you did. So do as much as you can, and when in doubt say yes.

Don't let fear stop you doing things. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are new to couch surfing. Our flat in Wellington was too small to host guests. Although in previous flats we hosted people, although mostly by word of mouth, friends of friends and people we met as they were traveling.

We would like to use Couch surfing to meet people and see things we might otherwise not get to do, as well as to make our travels last longer.

When we find a place to settle, we intend to host surfers too.

We are more than happy to help people with their English, and are happy to cook for our hosts if they would like.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No personal experience. However a friends flat used to host people and we got to meet some very interesting people that way.

We have hosted people that we have met hitchhiking, or friends of friends coming through Wellington although not through this website.

Interests

Abby:
I love books and reading, writing, words, poetry. I'm fascinated by psychology, particularly autism and other things that can go wrong with the brain. I like art, films, food and cooking, wine, margaritas, sewing and designing clothes. I like museums and art galleries. I like music and dancing. Travelling, seeing and trying new things. I love animals, particularly cats, and Elephants. I like to meet new people, and I love to learn.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Listening to Bohemian Rhapsody sung in hushed voices by 500ish people in a tent to the accompaniment of two banjos.
Crossing the hills of Penang on Motorbikes, and finding a nutmeg factory where we tasted nutmeg juice and jam, and learned more than we ever needed to know about nutmeg.

Teach, Learn, Share

We're more than happy to teach English, cooking, IT, anythings we have to offer.
