ABOUT ME

i was born on an tepid afternoon in late september in nineteen eighty four.
i emerged on the forth floor of a marine hospital. this moment, this entry into the pelagic is more telling of my character than i truly understand.
i grew up on the escarpment in southern ontario. my history, my sense of being is connected to this landscape--to the meeting of water and limestone--to the persistence and resilience of the cypress and the jack pine precariously and plentifully growing in the sedimentary rock.
i am the product of two ideologically confused and emotionally reckless parents who fed me wine at dinner, gave me access to every tool and instrument of creation, told in great honesty the tribulations and experimentations of their youth in the sixties, yet forbade me from watching sitcoms.
i could sail a boat and fly a single engine aircraft before i legally could drive, vote or drink.
i am a ceaseless contradiction.
i cannot live without exposure to, production of and the discussion of art.
i am tall--sometimes when i wear high heels i have to duck under doorways.
my favorite number is five, and my life hitherto has been an altercation between artistry and rationality.
i am uncertain as to what i'll be when i grow up. i am however drafting as list of effectuations.
i am on the cusp of a paradigm shift.

anthropology of the body and senses, medical anthropology, body politics, and visual cultures. boundaries and bodies, policing and pedagogy--performance art and artists, body modification, risk and representation, and contemporary art and installation. oil paint, 35mm film and the uncertain.
