About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spend the next 2 years wandering this beautiful world and accept all surprises!

ABOUT ME

I knew I wanted to be a traveller when I was a young child and my dad returned from a trip to Guatemala with the most beautiful gifts. I wore my new jacket every day and bragged to my friends about his adventures.
When I was 19 I went on my first trip overseas. I flew solo to Paris and spent a few weeks abroad. Half-way through my studies I decided to take two years off to live and work in Edinburgh, Scotland. This decision shaped my life and got me excited about exploring the world.
I love travelling! I love being a student! Eddie Vedder said it right..I've got a 'mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul.'

I am a friendly person. I used to work in a pub in Scotland and have shared many laughs and tears over drams of whisky.

I can't wait to meet new faces and hear new stories.

PHILOSOPHY

Hmm..I love the people who surround me and their impact on my life. I love learning about who I am with hope of becoming a better person. I love making mistakes and learning from them. I love a lot of things and need to come up with a simpler philosopy..

I'll quote Shakespeare 'Simply who you are shall make you live.' We have a big, ecclectic, beautiful world and it is important for me to get out there and learn from it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to be an advocate for eco-tourism. It is important to visit a country and leave it the way you entered. I will be doing a lot of camping in South America and hope to leave as little of a foot-print as possible.
I can't stand when people say they're going to 'do' a country. It takes time to appreciate a place, and soak up everything a country has to offer. I feel passionately about where I come from and want to meet people who have their own travel experiences to offer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was in Munich I was invited to stay at the home of a friend of a friends. I don't think he is registered on CouchSurfing.

It was an amazing time and his hospitality was the medicine I needed for a long, solo trip through Europe. I am kicking myself for not couchsurfing more in the past!! I really don't know why I felt the need to stay in hostels!

Interests

I love photography (especially film based), movies, food!!, languages (I have studied German, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, but have a hard time remembering what I learned!) I love love love cooking!!! Especially for friends! I hike a lot and spend time outdoors. I love art and museums. I love debating and laughing at myself!

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many! I read a lot of Canadian authors. Rohinton Mistry, Jane Urquhart. I also really dig Kerouac and sat in his old bar last summer.
I listen to a lot of old jazz and blues singers when I read his stuff..I would have loved to have seen Nina Simone live.
I am really into Radiohead and Nick Cave, Tom Waits..all that good, soulful depressing stuff! (:

I watch any movies! I love Latin directors. Y tu Mama Tambien...sooo good but wouldn't recommend watching it with your parents! My dad makes me watch Bruce Willis movies...they're entertaining! I really loved The Diving Bell and the Butterfly too. Soo beautiful!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived one of my many dreams when I slept under the stars in the Sahara desert of Morocco.

I went on a 7-day tour of Turkey with a guide and group that didn't speak any English (I don't speak Turkish either!)

I slept in the ancient black houses of the Isle of Harris in the outer Hebrides of Scotland.

I worked in a pub on High Street in Edinburgh.

I swam in Loch Ness and kissed the Blarney Stone.
I drank in an IRA owned bar in Derry and insulted someone (I think..)

I drove across Canada and down the West Coast of the US.

I camped by the ocean and have been chased by a bear.

I hitch hiked in Italy and lived on a vineyard. When I was 24 I backpacked through Europe on my own and met the most beautiful people!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a pretty good grammar teacher! I can help with the English language and all of the craziness.

I can teach photography and help with PhotoShop.
I love being in the kitchen and learning from people, while sharing ideas. I also think I am a pretty great listener!
