ABOUT ME

Having travelled together for the past 11 years,including the UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea for a year each, our itchy feet drive us on to find new places, to meet new people and to have more wonderful adventures!

The past few years have found us mostly grounded as we started up our own fine art photography business and have been learning about building websites, printing, mat cutting, using various programs, etc. Our hope is that someday this little business will help fund more travels which will then generate more pictures for our website! We stayed in Midland, Ontario for the start up of our business and since have moved to Vancouver for the last 2 years to be closer to my family. My grandmother - who basically helped raise me - just turned 100 years old this year and we wanted to be able to spend more quality time with her and the rest of my immediate family.

PHILOSOPHY

We try to live life fully...and to steal from Leonard Cohen, "all my life, I have tried to be free..". We would like to make a difference in the world, although the whole "saving the world thing" has been jaded out. However, we both feel that we can make small little differences and if we can make someone happier by knowing us, then we have succeeded. We try to bring positivity to each and every day.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have been hosting international friends and guests for years now, albeit not through CS...the joys of having a very international alumni network!
We have been hosted by various wonderful people during our travels, and met other lovely friends through CS - it has been a great way to reach out to people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had our first Couchsurfing experience when we arrived to Edinburgh with our great host, Andy Blair.
It was such a wonderful experience that we are now firm believers in the network. While on a whirlwind tour of the UK and the Emerald Isle, we stayed with CSers in both Cardiff and Dublin. All our CS experiences have been amazing and we look forward to many more in the future!
Also, we had a great outing our first week in town with a great group of CSers that arranged a fun day to celebrate St. Andrews Day. This is such a fantastic group of fun people!
Back in Canada, we have met some great new friends through CS!!

Travelling, Meeting kindred spirits and having a chin wag, EATING, cooking for dinner parties, enjoying nice wines, single malt scotches or other fun drinks, music, music, music, dance, the ARTS in general, movies, reading, laughing as much as possible, sharing, hiking, camping, simply being out in Nature, playing Cranium with friends, going to Trivia nights at a local pub, cheering on the New Zealand All Blacks, hockey, basketball, volleyball and Olympic rowing!!

Definitely recommend Iain Banks' "Raw Spirit: In Search of the Perfect Dram". It's funny, witty and very informative for great scotch and seeing Scotland. Adam has been reading Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" and finding it really interesting.
Read Tolstoy's "War and Peace" as it's part of a BBC 100 Book list that I would like to complete one day...this is book 44, me thinks! :)
More recently, fell in-love with "The Book Thief" and "The White Bone". Also really love "Life of Pi"...so read another Yann Martel novel, called "Beatrice and Virgil" - great writing style!

Music: We listen to lots of different styles of music - and often play "the youtube game" with our friends, where each person takes a turn to DJ a song of any choice...sometimes we use the alphabet and you pick an artist or song with each letter, taking turns - amazing what comes up!

Movies: We've been watching more HBO shows than movies recently...Really enjoyed "The Wire", and "Deadwood". Also have been enjoying access to international films and documentaries during the festivals (DOXA and VIFF) here in Vancouver!

Would recommend the documentary: The Corporation, made by Mark Achbar...same maker as "Manufacturing Consent", based on the book.
