About Me
Heyy, I’m Adriaan!
Proudly South African 🇿🇦 🏳️🌈, a scientist at heart, and an adventurer by nature. I’m young, curious, and always chasing new experiences, from exploring unfamiliar cities to staying up late swapping stories with new friends.
I have a deep love for learning, connecting with people, and discovering how others see the world. I’m easygoing, respectful, and genuinely enjoy sharing laughter and good energy. Whether it’s diving into nightlife, wandering through museums, or finding the best local food spots, I’m always up for the adventure.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing gives me the chance to experience a city through the eyes of someone who calls it home. I love genuine conversations, cultural exchange, and seeing the world beyond tourist attractions.
I’m here to meet interesting people, share stories, and create connections that last long after the trip ends.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies and Shows: My taste is pretty wide, ranging from anime to romcoms, I enjoy a bit of everything. I’m a sucker for Disney classics, love getting lost in Game of Thrones, and when the mood hits, Dirty Dancing is on repeat .
Music: My playlists jump from classical, 80s and RnB to German and Euro pop, with some amapiano thrown in for good measure. I’m a total all-rounder when it comes to music, especially when it’s in a foreign language.
Books: I love a mix of fantasy, sci-fi, and emotionally rich stories. Some favorites are Harry Potter, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Geisha, and anything by Robin Hobb. I’m currently (and very slowly) making my way through A Little Life — Wish me luck 😬.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing experiences I’ve had was presenting a scientific poster at an international conference in Spain 🇪🇸. It was surreal, standing among brilliant minds from around the world, sharing my work, and realising that curiosity and discovery truly connect us all.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love the exchange of ideas and experiences that travel brings. I can share stories and insights about South Africa, from our diverse cultures and languages to our food, humor, and music. I’m constantly eager to learn about new cultures, traditions, and especially local cuisines; food is one of my favorite ways to connect with people and understand a place. Whether we’re cooking together, exploring your city, or just talking over coffee, I enjoy sharing laughter, music, and genuine conversation that makes every connection memorable.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’m a respectful and considerate guest who values the trust and openness that hosting represents. I always do my best to bring a positive, respectful, and light-hearted energy into any space and to leave it just as I found it — or better. I’m happy to lend a hand around the house, cook a meal, or share something small from South Africa as a token of appreciation. Above all, I offer good company, reliability, and genuine gratitude for being welcomed into your world.
