Hi! Emily and I are a couple from Singapore and currently on an 8 months backpacking trip around the world. We’re excited to explore and learn about different countries and cultures, meet and know people and to have them share in our adventures!

We have experienced couchsurfing separately in the past and will be doing it together this trip. We met many friends and had wonderful experiences on couchsurfing and would love to do the same again 😄

We are interested to meet people, have conversations, learn more about the local culture and build connections in the places that we visit. We find it is more interesting, enriching and meaningful that way. (And to be honest, we are unemployed on a budget, which is a significant factor to why we are on couchsurfing too)

Books: Not very good with books but I love Podcasts and Audiobooks! Creativity Inc by Ed Catmull is my favourite

Movies: Basic Blockbusters, Documentaries, and lots of Youtube! My current Fav Movies are Everything, Everywhere, All at Once(Fiction), and Free Solo(Documentary)

Music: Music is one thing I cannot live without… I listen to literally any good music and appreciate a wide range of genres - oldies, jazz, r&b/soul, classical, musical, electronic dance, gospel, french pop, mandopop, kpop… but my favourites would tend to be indie folk/indie rock/indie pop. My all-time favourite artiste/bands - OMAM, Dotan, The Lumineers, Kodaline, Bruno Major, Glass Animals, RKS. Always keen to explore music from around the world and interested to know your recommendations!! Also I love listening to live singing and music :)

Movies: Unfortunately, not a huge blockbuster fan, and less drawn to action/sci-fi/marvel movies. I like films that have a deeper meaning, evokes feelings and makes you ponder on its themes after the credits roll. Favourite genres- drama, black comedy, comedy, historical, war, thriller, fantasy, romance, social realism, documentary. Favourite movie watched in 2023 - All Quiet on the Western Front ( was quietly rooting for it in the most recent Oscar’s).

Books: Used to read more in the past but have slowed down a lot in recent years. As you may probably tell, my style = I don’t have a fixed style. Though I read a lot more non fiction than fiction and tend to like biographical-based books. Some recent favourites - Born A Crime, Tattooist of Auschwitz, This is Going to Hurt, The Choice.

Adrian: Went solo backpacking from Singapore to London (as a couchsurfer).

Emily: Being true to myself and not getting sucked into societal values and the rat-race (it’s tough!); first solo backpacking at 19, living abroad (Germany, UK), investing in travels always.
