Overview
About Me
We're fun guys who love technology, music, and exploring new places. We care greatly about social/queer/trans/feminist issues and our home is a safe space for expressing and discussing these topics.
We love to meet couchsurfers with similar values - and also ones who can share new perspectives with us! To that end, we aren't interested in generic "copy-paste" couch requests, but ones that give us motivation to meet interesting people.
We've lived in Toronto for quite a while, so we know it pretty well.
We have active lives in the city, but we travel as much as we can, even if that's only short trips closer to home.
Our philosophy: make the people around us just a little bit happier :-)
We all have a lot to be thankful for, and it's easy to forget that while stressing over small stuff. Don't overthink life. It's not as complicated as we are led to believe.
The simple life is under-rated!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
"He who does not travel does not know the value of men" - Moorish proverb
Couchsurfing opens the world to you. Whether hosting or surfing, there are tons of amazing people to meet, and we have an absolute blast meeting them.
As hosts, we really love to chat with our guests and learn about their culture and share a bit of ours.
We really try to make people feel completely at home in our fine city.
We're honoured to have a chance to meet so many amazing people and bring a bit of Canadian hospitality into their voyages.
Interests
People who read all of this profile information :)
Adrian is most definitely a computer geek -- but still tries to be a sociable "offline" individual! He builds websites professionally and is a big supporter of open source software. And he uses Linux.
Jon is an activist, music & useless fact geek -- ever heard of Sugar Jones (neither have most people, but Jon will talk your ear off about them.) :-D
Aside from that, we both love discovering good craft breweries and cool neighbourhood coffee shops, and absorbing the arts & culture of a new city.
Music, Movies, and Books
We have a varied musical taste. We enjoy electronic, dance, pop, jazz, and sometimes rock. And we listen to a lot of classical music when the mood strikes. Our current playlist explores the varied musical stylings of Canadian Artists.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
OK, several amazing things:
Camping on crown land in northern Ontario... incredible experience but also really scary.
Adrian backpacked around France and met some amazing people. It's what inspired us to be more active with Couchsurfing!
Jon was in Dublin when Ireland passed Same-Sex Marriage and learned what Irish hospitality is truly about.
Whale-watching in Newfoundland in the spring.
Standing hand-in-hand on a hillside in central Mexico looking out over a fully in-tact Spanish Colonial city.
Breathing the fresh air of the Scottish highlands on the shores of Loch Ness. (Sadly no Nessie)
Seeing a modern opera at the Estates Theatre in Prague where Mozart did much of his work.
Wandering caves, castles and coastlines all in one day in Slovenia.
Quietly grinning ear-to-ear as a herd of 25 wild African Elephants, wee ones in tow, passed a few metres away.
Chilling to some Bossanova on Ipanema
Riding a "Chicken bus" on the Costa Arriba de Panama.
Travel in general is amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
Adrian can teach you all about web development, and probably fix your computer, too. We have a piano that you can play, or ask us and we might play for you :)
We've been to every province in Canada, so we can tell you plenty about our fine country :-)
And we would love to learn about your culture and travels, what excites you and inspires you. We love to pick up new, little hobbies and ways of living from our fellow surfers! Also we have a guitar that we don't know how to play :-( so we want to learn this from somebody!
