À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
Currently I have made very loose plans to go on adventure with my girlfriend Marie-Pier form Quebec, Canada. Recently we made plans to crew on a sailboat leaving California in mid Oct heading to Hawaii. From there we might go to the Philippines or we might search for another boat. We are dedicating a year to our world adventure. Our goal is to meet people (travelers or locals) and share experiences while we explore what this world has to offer.
ABOUT ME
In 2013 I made a life changing decision to leave Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was a beautiful place where I had wonderful jobs, friends, family, roommates & community. Everything in my life was wonderful, but I wanted to explore the world & not having any kids or debt I made a leap out into the unknown. I gave away, sold or packed all my belongings and went to the east coast to find a boat going to a different country. My decision was to pursue my interest in sailing and having never sailed before I wanted to gain the skills of a seaman so I could be an asset on any boat.
Since then I have sailed on many different sailboats. Anywhere from an 8' sailfish to a 42' catamaran to a 125' traditionally rigged tall ship. I have raced in multiple races including the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race. The most critical lessons I learned were on my two trips back and forth from the Bahamas, one all the way from Boston. Spending 5 weeks in dry dock doing maintenance, I was comparing the differences between working on houses & boats. Working almost a year on the tall ship Liberty Clipper I learned alot, finishing my employment having been 1st mate, assistant engineer, bosun and 2nd mate/watch leader on transit.
I have had many different jobs in my life all of which taught me something and improved me as a person. I have a good understanding of how most things work & enjoy fixing stuff. I`m still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.
I have fun wherever I am & whatever I`m doing. I have alot more fun out in the woods camping or sailing the ocean as opposed to doing touristy things in the city staying at a 5 star hotel or traveling on a cruise ship.
PHILOSOPHY
With a positive attitude the world around you is more positive.
If you want to change or do something than do it, actions speak louder than words.
It is amazing how much can be done if we are always doing.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is a wonderful resource that gets like minded people on the same page (pun intended) I hope to use it as a resource to research alternative travel options, volunteer possibilities, as well as network with travelers & locals to share ideas & experiences. I look forward to spending time with all my friends I haven't met yet (that could be you :-)
I started my couchsurfing account in 2007 when I first heard about it. My roomates at the time weren`t to keen on the idea of having couchsurfers that we hadn`t met and I never really did anything with the website until June 2014. I have always been happy to host guests wherever I have been living but I have always known them before they stay at my place. I can sleep just about anywhere. My experience camping while doing wildland firefighting & trail work proved this to me.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
I enjoy music and anything that makes me laugh or that educates me on something I'm interested in.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Stopped forest fires and sailed to the Bahamas in the same year.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
If I know it or understand I'm happy to share my knowledge. I'm very patient, if you want to learn I'm happy to go over something until it is understood. If I don't know I will be happy to learn or figure it out.
I grew up in the mountains & feel at home in them. I have worked for the Forest Service doing trail work and firefighting, as a Ski Guide & a Snowboard Instructor. I have many survival skills I'm happy to share. My experience working on cars/boats has given me a good understanding of mechanics. I'm a competent carpenter & have built/repaired houses and furniture
I`m very interested in improving my linguistics. I`m slowly learning French & Spanish. I enjoy learning about other cultures and different ways of doing things.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
I'm happy to help with projects or chores around the house or repair things while I'm there. I'm grateful for people opening their home up & I feel the least I can do is leave it nicer than when I came. I don't claim to be a good cook but people say they enjoy the food I make. I would be happy to prepare a meal or help in the kitchen while. I always have the desire to explore and have fun!
