About Me

Hey there! I’m Ahmad — a doctor by profession, a traveler by passion, and a curious soul by nature. When I’m not in scrubs, you’ll probably find me wandering through a new city, cooking up a storm in someone’s kitchen, or lying under the stars in Dahab wondering how the universe got so ridiculously beautiful.
I believe life is best lived somewhere between a good conversation and a great meal. I’m the kind of person who’ll invite you for shisha and end up talking about everything from medicine to movies to the meaning of life. I read widely, cook passionately, and travel slowly — because the best stories come from the places you actually stop and breathe in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because hotels have walls, but people have stories. I’m not here for free accommodation — I’m here for real connection. I want to cook dinner with a stranger who becomes a friend, explore a city through the eyes of someone who loves it, and remind myself that despite everything, the world is still full of warmth and kindness. Whether I’m hosting or surfing, my door (and my kitchen) is always open.
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” — Augustine of Hippo

Music, Movies, and Books

My playlist is a beautiful mess — one minute it’s the timeless voice of Umm Kulthum or Abdel Halim Hafez pulling at my heartstrings, the next it’s Fairuz setting the mood for a quiet morning with coffee. Then I’ll switch to the raw energy of Arabic rap — Wegz, Abyusif, Marwan Pablo, and Shabjdeed hitting different when you’re driving through city streets at night. Mix in some Cairokee and Mashrou’ Leila for those reflective moments, and you’ve got my world in a soundtrack.
When it comes to movies, I live between two worlds. I’m a sucker for Arabic cinema — from the golden era classics of Youssef Chahine to modern gems like The Blue Elephant and Welad Rizk. On the other side, give me anything by Christopher Nolan, Scorsese, or Tarantino. A good thriller, a mind-bending sci-fi, or a raw drama — I’m in. Movie nights with good company, popcorn, and endless debates about the ending? That’s my kind of evening.
I’m a novel addict — no apologies. My shelves are a love letter to Arabic literature: the unmatched نجيب محفوظ who made Cairo breathe through words, the gripping legal thrillers of أشرف العشماوي, the haunting storytelling of هشام الخشن, and the rich, layered worlds of إبراهيم عبد المجيد. These writers don’t just tell stories — they pull you into streets, courtrooms, and lives you never want to leave. Beyond Arabic lit, I’m drawn to Dostoevsky, Orwell, Gabriel García Márquez, and Khaled Hosseini. If you’ve got a novel that kept you up all night, I want to hear about it — and I’ll trade you one that’ll do the same.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traded my stethoscope for a sleeping bag and spent nights stargazing in Dahab’s desert — no city lights, no noise, just the Milky Way stretched out like a painting above the mountains meeting the sea. That’s where I learned that the most healing thing a doctor can prescribe is wonder.

Teach, Learn, Share

🔹 I can teach: Basic first aid & health tips that could save your life, Middle Eastern home cooking (think real Egyptian comfort food), and the Arabic language — from survival phrases to deep conversation.
🔹 I want to learn: Your local cuisine, your mother tongue, your favorite hidden spots that no guidebook mentions, and that one life lesson you carry everywhere.
🔹 I love to share: Stories over shisha, home-cooked meals, book recommendations, movie nights, and those late-night rooftop conversations that make you feel like you’ve known someone forever.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Consider me the guest who leaves your kitchen smelling amazing and your playlist upgraded. I’ll cook you an authentic Egyptian meal — think koshari, molokhia, or stuffed vine leaves made the way my mother taught me — and we’ll eat together like family. I’ll brew you real Egyptian tea or Turkish coffee and tell you stories that’ll make you laugh until your stomach hurts. Need a quick health tip or wondering about that weird pain you’ve been ignoring? I’ve got you — free medical advice over dinner, no waiting room required. I’ll introduce you to Arabic music that’ll give you goosebumps, recommend a novel that’ll keep you up past midnight, and teach you enough Arabic words to impress anyone — or at least make them smile. I’ll share shisha on your balcony, swap travel stories under the stars, and leave you with a piece of Egypt wherever you are. And if you’re ever in my city, you already have a home, a friend, and a personal chef waiting for you.
