About Me

I am originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, born and raised. I moved to St. Paul, MN to pursue a degree in biochemistry at the University of St. Thomas. I've gotten a lot of cringing and questions of "why would you put yourself through that??" and some times I ask myself the same thing, but I've always enjoyed a challenge, and I want to use chemistry to make the world a better and/or a more interesting place. Future aspects may be molecular gastronomy (I LOVE food) or going into medicinal research.

I arrived in Glasgow, Scotland this January to study at the University of Glasgow for the semester. I wanted to take some "easier" classes so I'm in Theater in Society (super interesting, especially when I have no theater background besides some Shakespeare), Exploring the Cosmos (fun fact: all heavy metal in you came from an exploding star), a black and white photography class (using film, developing, dark rooms, etc) along with my organic chemistry class. I love talking about what I'm learning and what other people have learned so hours of conversation over coffee or beer is always welcome!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When travelling in the past, the best conversations I've had had been with people with different backgrounds from me, whether that is a religious, political, economical, or cultural difference, and I've also seen the impact hearing someone else's story can be on an individual's life. I'd like to use Couchsurfing as a means to have those conversations (I'm a bit introverted and sometimes it takes a lot of mental effort to strike up a conversation with a stranger in a bar) and to make contacts around the world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

After my senior year of high school my family wanted to take one more big trip together (I am the oldest and the first one to "leave the nest"), so we took a trip through Germany, France, Spain, and briefly Switzerland. While in Spain, we walked the last 180km (started outside of Leon, Spain) of the Camino de Santiago which was such an amazing experience. I met people from all around the world, and the reasons the were on The Way. I would 100% recommend doing it (we saw people from all age groups and physical backgrounds, so just take it at your own pace and you can do it!) and I plan on going again but starting in Portugal.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to share my own personal background and stories, and I know a lot of hosts like to say that they are there to listen to their guests, but I also want to emphasize that I'm there to listen too. I also love to cook and would love to help make a meal or two with my host and share tips and tricks :)
