Overview
About Me
Hi! My name is Akmal, I’m from Pekanbaru, Indonesia 🇮🇩
I’m passionate about meeting new people, learning cultures, and sharing local experiences. I love deep conversations, local food, and helping travelers feel at home when they visit my city.
I work in the field of information systems and project management, but outside of work, I enjoy writing, exploring new places, and doing creative things like designing or photography.
I joined Couchsurfing because I believe traveling is not just about visiting places — it’s about connecting with people. I’m open-minded, respectful, and always curious to learn from everyone I meet.
I’m also improving my English, so I’d be happy to host travelers who don’t mind chatting and helping me practice while I share stories about Indonesia.
If you ever come to Pekanbaru, you’ll always have a friend here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined Couchsurfing because I love connecting with people from around the world.
I want to share the beauty of my city, Pekanbaru, and show travelers what local life in Indonesia feels like — simple, friendly, and full of smiles.
I also want to improve my English through real conversations while learning about other cultures, stories, and perspectives.
Hosting travelers is not just about giving a place to stay — it’s about sharing kindness, friendship, and experiences.
Couchsurfing, for me, is a way to make the world feel a little closer and warmer

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy many kinds of music — from chill acoustic, pop, and lo-fi beats to traditional Indonesian songs. Sometimes I also listen to instrumental or indie music when I’m working or writing.
For movies, I like inspiring and meaningful stories. My favorites are The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Pursuit of Happyness, Interstellar, and Life of Pi. I also enjoy simple romantic or comedy films that make me smile.
As for books, I read a mix of motivational and self-improvement ones — like Atomic Habits by James Clear, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* by Mark Manson, and some books about mindset, travel, and creativity.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One amazing thing I’ve done was becoming a youth ambassador (Duta GenRe) in my region and getting the chance to speak in front of many people about education, motivation, and youth development.
Through that experience, I learned how powerful it is to connect with others, inspire them, and make a positive impact — even in small ways.
It also helped me grow my confidence, improve my public speaking skills, and meet amazing people from different backgrounds.
That moment reminded me that doing something meaningful for others is one of the best adventures in life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love sharing stories about Indonesian culture, daily life, and traditions — especially from my hometown, Pekanbaru. I can teach you some basic Bahasa Indonesia words or help you try local food and snacks!
I’d love to learn more about different cultures, languages, and life experiences from travelers around the world. I’m also improving my English, so any casual conversation will help me a lot.
I like to share my time, laughter, and friendship — maybe we can cook together, explore local places, or just talk about life over a cup of coffee or tea
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share good conversations, kindness, and respect. I’m an easy-going guest who loves to listen, learn, and adapt to my host’s lifestyle.
I can help with small things around the house, cook simple Indonesian food, or share stories about my culture and daily life in Pekanbaru.
Most of all, I can share positivity, laughter, and friendship — because for me, Couchsurfing is not just about a place to stay, but about connecting hearts and creating memories
