About Me

I grew up in India, living a nomadic lifestyle. India is the most specific I can get because I have lived in a lot of places (17 cities so far). My parents infused me with a love of laughing, reading (fantasy!) and saying yes to new experiences.
I am finishing up a Computer Science degree at the University of California, Los Angeles right now. Moving to the United States and getting exposed to different cultures and views has been a fantastic experience. My appetite for traveling, meeting new people and exchanging ideas is unlimited, so I am alway ready for anything. I won't say no to a merry round of dancing either :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's a lovely way to make new friends and understand the real life of a city, rather than just the touristy parts. Plus, I deeply believe that our best memories are from times we spend with wonderful people and I want millions of those.
Oh, and I am a broke college kid who wants to save a bit of money and spend it on going more places. Though I can't host people right now because I am sharing a small flat in college, I am happy to show you the jolly sights of wherever I am living at the time.

Interests

Travel (Europe seems to be my current love)
Dance (the kind where you let loose and feel alive)
Fitness (I do a little bit of powerlifting)
Fiction (Epic fantasy is... fantastic)
Technology (and its social impact)

Most importantly, dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything danceable / with good beats is great. I do listen to classic and alternative rock, indie folk and Bollywood music. Epic, orchestral melodies are welcome too.

Movies: Too many to list but the Christopher Nolan is a safe bet. From Bollywood, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is my favourite.

TV Shows: Sherlock, Rick & Morty, How I Met Your Mother, Black Mirror, Friends and Game of Thrones.

Books: Anything by Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Butcher, Jeffrey Archer and the Harry Potter series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

After my second year at college, I got a chance to visit Russia for a programming competition. I convinced my supervisor to let me make a stop in Germany. I contacted two German friends whom I had met in India when they were volunteering there. I visited them at their home in Baden-Württemberg and it was amazing. Seeing the bucolic life they lived, the German attitudes toward hard work, sincerity and family was very inspiring.

An unplanned, unscheduled experience just because I had the courage to convince someone to let me make an impromptu stop. 'The world is your oyster' has never felt more true.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am open to everything. Share your thoughts, ideas and random acts of life :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am pretty knowledgeable about the cultures and lifestyles of northern India and southern California. I can teach all about Bollywood, the songs and dances and am a none-too-shabby dancer myself. I am fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi, so if you want I can give lessons in those too. I somehow got a formal degree in Computer Science, so can teach that too :)
If you like to try new cuisines, I am good at home-cooked Indian food too. And of course, the offer to travel with me to my next destination or my home in LA!

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Russian Federation, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
