About Me

I'm a 20 year old college student studying abroad in France. Back home I study French and Anthropology and I have a minor in Women and Gender Studies and eyeing another minor in Religion in Modern Culture. I have discovered my itch for travelling and want to continue learning and growing during and after my stay in Europe. I'm currently trying to teach myself Portuguese and can muster a few sentences like "o gato come uma maça" (the cat eats an apple). After learning French in a classroom, I'm finding it a bit difficult being all on my own with Portuguese. After I finish my bachelors I might decide to go to Brazil to learn in a university.

But I guess a bit about my living habits and how I would be a guest in your home: I'm not a partier, I've gone out a few times, been drunk a few times, but I don't care for it. I'm the only adult in my family that doesn't smoke. You won't have to worry about me stumbling in drunk at 4 am smelling like alcohol. I try to keep my possessions in one area (hostels with a drawer? my stuff will only be in that drawer. No drawers? I'll pick a corner and put it in there). Other than that, I don't know much of what I can talk about here?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've found that a lot of my traveling in the past has been largely focused on meeting other travelers through hostels. While that's great and I've met a lot of amazing people, I would like to meet some locals and really get a feeling of how everyone lives. I can still swap travel stories even when not in a hostel.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have to admit that I like country music. Ok, that's out of the way! But! I also like pop, classic rock, French rap (if you've never heard of Stromae, check him out!)

I don't watch a lot of movies, I much prefer TV shows because I can get invested with characters for the long haul. I'm half-purposefully not catching up on The Walking Dead because spoilers... I love Supernautral, Doctor Who, Sherlock (yes, the nerdom), Gilmore Girls, The 100... I could go on! But it's hard to find shows with more than one season on the French Netflix that I haven't seen already.

I used to be really into reading until I went to boarding school, but I still like to get invested in a good book occasionally. The last book I read was Me Before You. I picked it up in the Budapest airport while waiting for my flight to be announced. I read it on the way to Lisbon and Paris.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had never really traveled anywhere before 2016... I decided that when I was in France I would travel around, so during my Christmas break I traveled around Europe alone for two weeks. I went to Prague, Budapest, and Lisbon. By the end of staying I decided that I didn't want to not travel, and that if I ever lived out of a backpack traveling I would be happy.
I spent New Year's 2017 in Prague! I was originally going to go out with a couple English women I was rooming with but while we were pregaming in the lobby of our hostel when I overheard a conversation about politics. I ended up passing the night with these two people and we talked about how cultures and language open up the world, politics, and the future. After midnight we went for a walk to see some of the fireworks that people were setting off. It was freezing, but it was absolutely beautiful and hilarious running around Prague yelling out "Happy New YEAR" in the various languages we knew.
