ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Alex and I am a masters student in agricultural education, graduating in the Spring, and hopefully going to veterinary school to study shelter medicine and international medicine. I hope that one day I will be able to combine my love for animals, teaching, and travel by teaching veterinary medicine at a university as a part of the international medicine department. In the mean time though, I devote all of my time not consumed by school to my horse Dusty, my dog Lily, and to traveling as much as my schedule allows. In 2011 I went backpacking through Western Europe with my best friend Stephanie, and this Summer I am hoping to travel for 3 months solo through Eastern Europe and part of Africa.

Also I just got a motorcycle this year. I love it and I have pretty much abandoned driving my truck in favor of riding everywhere. I took it on my first 300 mile road trip in October, and one day I want to do a road trip around the U.S. on it.

The Animals:
I have a pitbull mix named Lily and a quarter horse named Dusty. I've been riding horses since I was 9 and I've devoted most of my life to them. I went to University to study animal sciences, planning to be an equine veterinarian, but I discovered I don't really like working for rich horse people all that much. I much prefer shelter medicine, disaster medicine, and the idea of working in underprivileged areas to educate people about proper veterinary care.

About my family:
My father is from England, and when he was in his 20s he hitchhiked the world with 3 friends, driving through Europe and the Middle East, flying from Pakistan to India, then Australia. I grew up with stories of his travels, making me want to have my own adventures more and more as I got older. My mother hitchhiked through part of Europe in her 20s as well, which is when my parents met. Now she is a flight attendant, which is AMAZING because we can fly virtually anywhere very cheaply.
