I've born in Italy near the Alps.
Since I was a kid I've been playing different sports and I grew up in the country side, which makes me interested in nature and outdoor activities. I also lived in big cities as Belo Horizonte (probably the biggest I've lived in). So I'm one foot in the nature and one foot in city life as pubs, party ecc.
So basically I can easily be comfortable in any situation.
I think couchsurfing is a wonderful idea of travelling, I see it as an exchange: some people will host you, some one maybe will feed you, others will just help you in other ways, and all you received from those people one day you might give back to other people that were in the same situation as you.
