Hi! I'm Alex. I am originally from outside of Cincinnati, OH - a small town called Landen. I attended Ohio State University, graduating in 2010. I then moved to NYC to be a teacher at a middle school in the South Bronx through an organization called Teach For America. In 2013 I joined the Peace Corps (a US volunteer organization) and moved to Micronesia, a country I had never heard of, and became an English teacher at a local school on an outer island of Chuuk for two years. Having just completed that adventure, I am traveling my way back to the US :).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to experience and understand the cities/towns I'm visiting from a local person's perspective. Staying with people who live there is a great way to get to know local people and understand their culture and way of life.

Interests

Of course, traveling is one of my main interests :). I am also passionate about food/cuisine of places around the world, books, comedy and hiking/nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all kinds of music, but I gravitate toward bluegrass/folk. I've been getting into jazz, lately. When it comes to movies and books I'll watch or read just about anything. I love documentaries and romantic comedies, which probably exemplifies my varied tastes, if not the most high brow ;). Living on an island I became an avid reader (island time = lots of time on my hands!). I'll alternate between novels and non-fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I moved to an outer island of Micronesia for two years, living and working with the local Chuukese people and integrating into their culture!
